Is that true that almost 90% computer users are fool

Whenever I see any discussion about Operating System and Web Browsers(not the topic for now) maximum people says that The best OS is MAC or Linux or even any other. Only a few people says Windows.

So if this is true then why arround 90% users use Windows???? The reason must be 90% people are fool(like me) and only 10% people are smart people who dont use windows.;)

    what you think???

I agree with marki8 ... but sometimes it depends of the needs of the user.

You will also ask yourself... Why to install Windows OS when more than 90% of the viruses are made for Microsoft Windows OS's ??? Well... there is something behind all the scene...

Probably you have seen comments from these 10% of users who are using MAC or Linux.
I'm software developer and I can say that Windows XP satisfy my needs very well even though I have also installed Ubuntu 8.10 (Linux) on my machine as well...

Anyway, users got addicted by using Windows so it's hard for anyone to go to another OS.
Linux has made very similar versions to Windows XP's one ... in order to drag more users BUT they didn't ... again ... and again ... even though they say Linux is better + free ... on that case, Windows is worse + expensive BUT again 90% of the users use it ;) ... lol

    You can figure out...

Linux still has a lot of work in my eye before it becomes user friendly. User being someone like my parents. So far it isn't quite there, but damn they're getting close.

Windows has been the easiest OS to come by. Almost every vendor sells it as a standard, and with games on its side, it seemed like a no brainer until a few years ago.

Now with OS X, macs have really turned around. (Remember, Apple almost went bankrupt in the early '90s). The switch to Intel processors also gave them the performance boost they needed to keep competing in the market.

Macs have always been expensive. Up until recently, a lot of people just looked at price and a few random specs for their machines. Now with an unstable OS (Vista), one going on 8 years old (XP), and one that is receiving mixed reviews (7), many people are looking for alternatives. Like I said, Linux has a ways to go, but Mac is already to deliver. Thanks to that, along with the iPods and iPhones spreading the Apple name, the switch from Pc to Macs has quickened!

It's really a matter of 'people go with what they know'. Windows has dominated the home OS scene for a long time (some may say they monopolised it) and as such people know how to navigate it, tweak it and run the software they want to run on it.

I've used Windows for more than 15 years and in all homesty it just annoys me these days, so I moved over to Linux and am finding it pretty dam good - but still I switch back to XP for certain applications.

Personally I'd love to see Linux take a bigger percentage of the OS market, but in order to do this people would need a good reason to 'jump ship' and the majority of home users just simply wouldn't be interested.

MacOS has a better chance of getting more of the OS scene and has advanced in leaps and bounds as of late.

Windows has a huge following, but also has a lot of people who hate it with a passion - many people believe an OS should be just that, a platform to run applications on, not bloated software trying to do everything.

Whatever your view point you can't be classed as a fool for using an OS - fools are the ones who visit dodgy websites, break their computers through dodgy software and require people like myself to 'fix' them :)

If you look at most of the discussions among Windows users, what do they talk about? The "cool colors". The looks of things. The "bling". But that tells you nothing of how the actual operating system works. Internet Explorer is not the operating system. Nor is your game, Office, or any other application you have.

Here's the real question, how does the OS handle multiple threads? What happens when you open many processes at one time? What happens when you're installing a program and you shut it down in the middle? Such things as that, and much more, are the true test of any OS.

Applications on Windows can run just as well on Macs and Linux if they are ported over to them. They probably would run better and more secure. But all your buddies use Windows. And Microsoft forced vendors, years ago, to force feed you Windows illegally. So that's all you knew.

I was going to write much more but I've got to go.

The way I see it is this:

Mac - Majority of people who work with video, graphics, editing, etc

Linux - "hackers", IT people, server maintenance workers, etc

Windows - the average user, gamers, programmers, etc

the reason why people use windows 90% of the time is because it is more universal. The way it has been written is very simple in the sense for the majority of people. Why would someone who is simply going to go online to check their email have to get ubuntu or mac? Each operating system has their pluses and whatever fits you best is the way to go. I personally love gaming and use windows because everyone knows mac is a joke when it comes to gaming and linux shouldn't even be considered.

vista isn't unstable. If people wouldn't install it on machines that are 8 years old there wouldn't be any problems

Linux is far from user friendly

Mac OSX isn't in any better shape compared to windows. For christ sake one of their main selling points was that you can duel boot vista with no problems! Then why buy a mac to use windows

well, 90% use it because we need to.

for example, my line of work, i need to use windows because we are IT integrated company, without windows, I can't possibly get it done.. but i dual boot my windows with ubuntu linux.

at home, i use iMac because Mac gives you pleasure of using computer.. linux is nice, but they still can't beat th e windows in appearance, but very close now compared to 11 years ago when i started using redhat 3 which doesn't even have a desktop environment.

If you are serious gamer, you will stick to windows more, if u r working, u will stick to windows more. but if you have a freedom of choice, you will also try to use something else.

I don't see why not.. it's always good to use several OS. even Unix, u can now download intel based.. for me, trying is fun.

Far more programmers use 'nix than Windows. The internet runs on 'nix, too.
If that was the reason then Macs would be more used.
Why do they need Windows? Firefox, Thunderbird work the same on Windows as they do on a Mac.
Like I said above. Windows users look at the bling and not the operating system. You are looking at the applications that come with Windows and not Windows itself. Macs and Linux could run the same games better if developers would port them to those.

How so? Have you ever used Linux?
Where oh where do you see that in their advertising?! Is that what they've been advertising on TV? How about on their front page of their web site? Show us the majority of their ads where this is one of their main selling points.

Get what done? I'd bet you can get "it" done fine with anything else, too.
    See what I mean? Bling!
Ah! Another point I forgot. The Windows users who treat their computer as a gaming console. Get an Xbox!

The sad thing about that is you MUST get a new computer every time Windows "updates". btw, I'm talking to you on an 8-year old computer right now running FreeBSD. My Linux box is on a 9-year old machine. I have not bought a new computer since 2001 because everyone gives me their Windows computers every time they "upgrade". I now have 10 boxes, the newest is 3 years old, and two notebooks, and I do everything you can do (though I don't play games. Get a Xbox.).

It's good to still be able to run an 8 year old computer, but a lot of people including myself like to be up to date with technology. I personally can't run the latest games on an 8 year old machine let alone 3 years. If I were a programmer than yeah go ahead and give me linux and I'll work miracles but since I'm a gamer than give me vista 64 because that's gonna use up my 8gb of ram and my crossfire 4870s x2, but if I was a video editor then go ahead and give me a macbook pro so I can work magic on final cut studio pro. The learning curve on windows is just far easier than that on mac and linux do it yourself give someone new to computers a computer with each and see which one will learn faster obviously windows.

Fault lies in the fact that for most beginners, Windows OS is synonyms with personal computers. Majority of us have learnt to use computers through Windows only and since computer language is greek to many, we dare not touch or experiment with any other OS for fear of complete shut down and loss of data.

Hence, even though it is not a good value for money...we all are definitely fools to be still using it..

Some are fools to keep buying a new computer entirley to "upgrade" all one has to learn what CPU fits in what socket and just buy a new CPU or motherboard, also RAM is Cheap...

You must not know anything about computers. A PC can match easily the performance of Xbox. You can also hook up in most video cards now a with S-Video, or HDMI Jack into your TV and get Controllers of course into your USB hookup. Game consoles are just something for someone looking for some extra eye candy on there TV.

Very nice, I have CrossFireX 3450. Its still very good.
