I think forum posting is more effective then directory bcz google shows forum backlinks easily and it is always more than directory backlinks..

well, if u have time, submit to directories as well, it's not mandatory anymore.. but you never know..

the more exposure the better chance of getting visitors to your site, the rest is your job to maintain their regular visits... I would be more than happy to have 3000 readers on my site than 100,000 un-targeted traffic..

so, SEO works actually are useful, but your content, layout and stickiness are basically very important, once your site has valuable content, others will volunterily link you.Especially in same niche, that means, you will get higher page rank as well.

    hope that helps.

thats very interesting but it is very time staking for content witters and seo's --- although I have a directory sub blaster does does it auto...this mechanism allows me to blast out to 700,000 link directories.....it is very time consuming so it is up to your preference of how wel we come about this situation.......whats better content or directories please confirm lol green lights ;)

The directories are not good source of traffic but a forum relevant to your website topic will give you traffic and if it allows dofollow signature link then backlink too. But directories can help increase the ranking of your website. But you should be choosy. Choose good directories for directory submission including dmoz, joent, skaffe, illumirate, ezilon, etc. The Joent, Skaffe and Illumirate are offering free submission only to the editors. So join the directory as an editor and submit quality websites.

they both can be a waste of time if the directory/forum page is not indexed or off topic but the danger with directories is that if google punishes it for being a link farm then your site might be affected too.

Googles punishment is obviously PR takin away....although if your listed in directories and yopu have tons of relevant content and write up Googles PR should not matter....ive tested this with Blogurple.com when Google dropped me from pr 5 to pr 0 ...... ;) but I wont be loosing pr again my blogging is better and I researched the theme against other WP blogs.... my theme is totally Google nationed. the secret is.....pm me for that....cant reveal all me secrets....lol

It's generally true that Google doesn't seem to value link directories anymore, BUT I think there's one exception: Dmoz.

I'd recommend manually submitting all of your sites to www.dmoz.org, Google seems to still like it.

DMOZ as an exception is correct
but as you may know - there are rumors that BOTW considers purchasing DMOZ - thus the directory may run out of Google sphere.
that would explain the distance G creates to directory submission as DMOZ affiliation with G was the only reason why G had to equally treat all other directories as well.

directories are part of OLD web-stone age when SE have been depending on keywords of meta tags rather than on full text analyzes and semantics-technology. people now can get in seconds what a directory search eventually never may bring.

Do you need certain PR to get into DMOZ? I choosed correct category and wrote short and informative title and description but it didn't go through.
