If I submit my site to shopping>clothing is that considered relevant content because all the other links on that page are clothing links? Anyone know?

It does effect your rankings in google i believe :)
I personally submit my site to every new directory posted here :) whether it's free or paid(Unless price is like 50-70$ per link :D)
    Saad :)

Yes, its called co-citation. If your site is about phones and is continually linked from pages that also link to Nokia and Sony Ericsson then you are deemed as being related to Nokia and Sony Ericsson.

If you buy links to your seo site from pages that also link to a free ringtone site then the search engines think you are a ringtone site.
