Directory submission through getting back link and traffic will be very minimal. Directory submission are good for the new sites just starting out.

directory submitting is nothing but to get real backlinks. It helps directly to optimize your site. There are lots of another way but submitting directories is one of the easiest way. Okay, before submitting any directory, you should gotta pay attention on PR. You should try to submit first the directories those are have higher PR because this will give you greater optimization in search engine.

It's not necessary to spend time on submitting website in many directories.
I used this service to submit my website in thousands of directories:

The secret to directories is your selection! Auto submit to 5000 web directories probably won't get you any results, but submitting to the top 100 DoFollow directories, maybe with deep links, can help you for sure

The point isn't in the amount of directories. Though these guys offer submission in 2280 directories at once. The main thing that the list includes top 100 coolest directories. And this is not only backlinks and PR increasing. But also traffic.

look at it like this ,you add stuff to your website to sell and search engines pick that up. when you add to directories say 5 directories the same paragraph with words will add weight and lift you up for those words in the ranking give you a link back and give you a link on the search engines through the directories its a win win situation. its all about the directories and nothing else!!

Many websites are PR0 and you might think they wouldn't be worth it - BUT - those directories might have a PR5 or higher in the future and they are linking to you! And, if it is a dofollow that is well worth the time it took to submit it!

Rather than the page rank of free directories , look for the goal of the directories. Some directories are now pr 0 can become pr5+ or whatever it is. Some will become pr0. If the directory has a long term goal and progressing everyday sooner or later they will become very good to pass link value to your site. So today's no value link will become valuable for you if you are looking for long term result for your site

I think its a good place to start telling the whole world about your site. But it is definitely not a must.

Ideally just submit to some great dirs that is deem as good by SEs. And the bots crawl them frequently..

So that way, you will get crawled and index faster.

Not sure if everyone agrees with me.

    My 2 pence.

Yes you should Submit your website to Directories.

I got a response from person who claims that he got PR3 for his website by just Directory Submission work.

    It gives positive response.

In my experience I have seen that there are few directories with good PR, that still accept submitters (dmoz rarely does), Pass link juice (no rel=no follow tags) and are free.
I have seen lists of these directories on digital point.
If your starting off on a shoestring budget this should be a part of your strategy and will begin getting your site indexed.
most times you can find someone to submit your site around $2 a directory and they will guarantee a listing.

it is not essential but recommended when starting out. Sounds like your past that stage if you have a pr6 site.

To gain traffic simply make sure you are ranking for your high search volume KW's and consider submitting to sites like stumble upon. :)
