is sub-pages 0 PR a problem

    hey there,
If a site has many sub pages, and it is mainly the content in the sub pages that you want people to find in the SERPS, then does the PR of those individual pages have a large barring? or is the page rank of the domain used in the calculation as well??

for example, if i have a site:

    xyz.com with PR5

and all my real content is at:

    xyz.com/content.html
    etc.. etc...

but these pages are PR0, then will the PR5 of the main domain (xyz.com) help xyz.com/content.html list in the serps?? or is the sub-page an entity unto itself??

i am asking because i am sending (as would make sense) all my back links back to my homepage, and I am wondering if i should start staggering this to help my more content rich pages list.

    thank you!

    First and foremost:

PR really doesn't matter that much in ranking.

Ranking is all about links to the site. So, you DO need to get links pointing to your inner pages with good anchor text although the main page can help a little..but focus on deep linking to get your content ranked.

Exactly what AnaB said: PR doesn't really matter anymore in SE ranking.

Post about those pages in forums, get deep links from directories (basically get links pointing to your main pages).

Google also does a fair job of finding the good content. Sometime it lists your second pages (most relevant to the searched term) right underneath the homepage link...

ok, thanks guys, so i have to get a lot of internal links as well. Then I have a more specific question, with regards to directories, would it be a good idea to submit some of my internal pages to directories as well as the homepage??

also, isn't PR a measure of backlinks?? and if it is backlinks and not PR matter, then doesn't PR by default matter, even if just as a measure of backlinks??

I don't think you would get much credit for submitting your internal link.

    1-Directories normally don't accept that
2-Normal distribution of PR starts from main page. I didn't see anywebsite having PR5 in sub-page and PR4 in main page. It is not a good idea to go against water.

You are right about PR & backlinks relation but PR is more complex then just getting backlinks. You can see company websites with just 5-6 pages having PR4.

I agree with the others that you have to improve your link popularity...you may want to create articles and submit them to article directories and put your internal links on the resource box and use your keywords as your anchor text it'll help on your rankings...:)

PR is just like a decoration. LOL

Kidding, PR is somehow important, even in sub-pages, for link exchanges. To raise PR, build backlinks from high PR sites until Google's PR update.

This is probably the best way to get the deep links you want. Plus if other people like your article they will pick it up and you'll get even more backlinks.

To me the importance of PR is limited into having authority to ask someone to do some reciprocal linking. I did not see anything significant in terms of relationship between rankings and PR values.
