Is Stumpbleupon traffic as good as any other traffic?

I was wondering this question because the other day(yesterday) I got almost 900 hits on a page and a few other pages. Is it good traffic?

I have very little experience so far but I'd say it's pretty untargeted.

Let us know how they convert please.

Has a reputation for not converting. A few types of sites do well out of it, but mostly stumblers look for a second and then *click* - on to the next site.

It's usually poor quality traffic. People often get into "stumbling mode" where they just click the stumble button, wait for the page to load, then quickly decide whether to thumbs up, thumbs down, or just move on to the next stumble without making any judgment. They rarely stay long enough on a site to purchase an item or even click on an ad.

Stumble traffic is just click through traffic, it rarely if at all converts and very few ever even look at what you have. The only thing it really does is increases your bandwidth usage and makes your stats look better.

Since I quit using them, my traffic is down a lot but my earnings are up.

It's untargetted traffic so it just uses your bandwidth but you will have a lot of visitors

it can work for 5% site but for most, its useless. You never get returning visitor.

It is short lived. Very high bounce rate.

I got some traffic from stumbleupon on regular basis but I hardly see any conversion or clicks of it. So traffic from it look waste to me

Any traffic is good for your website, it will increase your Alexa Ranking. But if you depend on this kind of traffic (Stumble upon) then you will not get any targeted traffic for your website. Your business will not befitted from this kind of traffic. Few days back I have wrote one blog post about how to optimize flash website, as usually I have stumble that post immediately and after one day I have checked my google analytics about post traffic and I feel very glad to see such a high visitors(1450 visitor). Suddenly I have noticed that bounce rate of that high traffic day's also very high (89%) and average time spent also very bad. that means 1450 visitors are not for my site. They just visit and left out.

Yes, SU traffic is untargeted traffic but can someone here told me what kind of social bookmarking traffic that really convert? Digg? Delicious? Or what?

most of the traffic wont come back unless you have top quality content.
If you do have good content then it doesnt matter whether traffic from Stumble or digg or whatever else

Not good quality but I've heard people say that if you have a free offer with newsletter signup, you could get some signups. It can increase your alexa ranking and it takes less 2 mins to stumble a webpage so I guess it does not hurt to just do it and forget it.

You three all need to check the meaning of "targeted" as SU IS targeted traffic! It's often poor quality traffic, but it's still for the most part targetted, as an SU member stumbled through tags that they have listed as interesting, so when they stumble through a site, they have an interest in it, hence it being targetted, and allowed by Google...

While the sites you'll visit ARE random, there is method to that madness...

When you sign up to StumbleUpon, you have the option of rating sites with a thumbs up or a thumbs down. If you give it a thumbs up it gets added to a queue under a given tag(s). Then if you click the "stumble" button, it will take you to a random page that another member has given a thumbs up to based on what keywords you are stumbling through.

It's a neat idea that has taken off because it's a fun way to find new sites. However, as fate would have it, most use it as a pass time rather then a means to actually find a new site. Most users will 'stumble' page after page if something catches their eye they may stay and read it, though most of the time the stumble button is clicked again and it's off to the next site.

It's very rare that any stumbler will stick around and read anything other then the page they landed on, and even rarer that they will click an ad, sign up for something, or even book mark the site... though such things do happen, so it's sometimes worth the time to give a FEW thumbs up to a couple of your pages.

Care should be given however, as you can get labeled as a spammer and get banned from SU, or worse your site can get banned (like what has happened to Digital Point). So it's best to only promote the best of the best of your pages using ANY social networking site...

Sign up and give it a go... you will not be sorry you did!

Stumbleupon is good for nothing other than making your site stats look nice.

I got 30,000+ on a popular article I wrote on a blog, a week later... nothing. No more returning visitors from the week before.

    StumbleUpon traffic comes and goes.

Well, if you have Google Analytics, you can click on the stumble upon as a referring site, and see how long people were on your site, their bounce rate, etc..... when I got stumble traffic to 2 of my sites, they were there for less than 5 second total.... i have heard stumble upon traffic is bad, and that pretty much confirmed it for me.

If you have steady stumbleupon traffic, i guess even if you get like 10-15 subscribers or repeat visitors out of 900, thats pretty good.
