Hi guys, I haven't seen anyone write about it, but I think google is giving many squidoo lenses the slow and certain death. I've had many lenses which had a good number of visits from google, with good links, simply vanish from the search results. I'm not saying that they went down. They simply vanished. And I don't know why. I think google has lost it's appeal for many of squidoo's lenses. Has anyone else experienced this, especially with CB related lenses? Have you managed to solve this?
Have you kept updating the pages. The only time this happens is if I fail to update a page. I usually update a page about 1-2 times a week and my traffic has continued to climb.
Some of my lenses have active feedbacks from readers, so they are always updated. Others aren't too updated. On the squidu forum, there is an active discussing on this subject. There is little doubt that google has developed a new dislike to squidoo lenses. Another one of mine has disappeared from the rankings today.
I think updating has a lot to do with it. If you are selling an affiliate product, there are probably others out there doing the same thing, sometimes they can replace you in the search listings.
Nothing to do with Squidoo, its how google works. Google constantly shifts around its search engine resultes pages. So unless your are constantly building backlinks or constantly updating your lense, eventually Google will drop it down and replace it with what google thinks is a better link.
Squidoo lenses sometimes disappear from search results but they tend to reappear after a couple of weeks. I have had this happen on a number of occassions. If you have useful and original content in your lenses you will do well in searches over the long term. Lenses with copied content will not and this is often the case with lenses promoting ClickBank products.
Yeha I think squidoo and hubpages are gonna get the boot from google soon because they caught onto affiliates using them for backlinks and sales pages. Best to stick with blogger because its google owned.
I'll have to agree with this, it's a G world after all... Any search engine out there, wants REAL relevant content, as does any directory, forum, squid/blog/blah, anytime there is an infestation of 75% or more hidden/sneaky/aff run pools of content - google slaps them and makes it hard to regain ranking... simple algorythm change? Perhaps, it does suck for aff marketers but for end users and G it is relevant to give real info and content to its end users (and a quiet way to say 'hey come advertise with us directly instead'). Maybe squidoo lost some respect because most of it's users and lenses are rooted to influenced sales endorsements and there is too much aff bound blatancy... just my .02. NC.
Don't rely on any social networks, as your primary source of income. Always create a website, which belong to you and use social networks for backlinks.
A lot of Squidoo Lensmasters are complaining about this, but a lot of others are not seeing this at all. There is also some complaints on SEO forums about other websites being dropped by Google, so it's not Squidoo specific. Read this forum post, and associated blog posts: Evidence of a Google Algorithm Tweak
I read both posts that were in that forum topic... my theory is that google have run an update/re-indexing of sites to account for "page load" speed being introduced. As ever, that is just a wild guess
I must admit i have seen a significant drop in traffic and rankings from my lenses and as far as updating and promotion is concerned it does not seem to have made any difference unlike in the past. It is i suspect like anything else once the hype gets out of control something has to be done about it which probably explains a lot.
Squidoo it's still a good place to create your mini-site, i call it "wikipedia with ads". You just need to create backlinks, like for any other site.
