Is something wrong with Alexa?

My site's traffic is growing very fast. But it's also going down in alexa's ranking.... I wonder if anyone noticed this?

It only ranks for the main domain.

Alexa is not accurate for smaller sites, even if your site is growing. If you grow from 4 visits a day to 500 visits a day, there will be a noticeable change from like 10,000,000 to 2,000,000 for example. But if you grow from 500 visits to 1000+ visits/day, this is where Alexa becomes a terribly inaccurate tool, and your rank can fluctuate anywhere between 400,000 and 800,000, just as an example.

It only ranks for the main domain not for subdomain.

Yes me too noticed some issues with Alexa. Though we get good traffic / page views, Alexa rank is going down.

I think they are making the rank independent of Alexa toolbar (which would make alexa a great ranking tool), but not too sure about that.

You can add the alexa button by visiting alexa.com and selecting the site owners section...

If we pretend 1% of people use the Alexa toolbar and therefore contribute to Alexa's stats... they have to guess what 99% of people are doing on the internet. That's a big assumption especially if your site is small.

Don't rely on what it's telling you for decision making. Use a more directly data driven tool like Google Analytics.

Alexa doesn't rely solely on the toolbar for data and hasn't for years now. If you follow SEO you should know that.

It's not a search engine (SEO?), they refer tiny amounts of traffic, and people can fake rankings using bots.

You'll gather it's not high on my list of fave metrics ;)

PLease make sure you include a tracking tool which will log in all the IP's . It will show you if the visits are unique or they are from same IP.

Alexa will never give you rank for visits from same IP and do check it and get back to me friend
