Yesterday my UK Advertising site was ranked 119 out of 127,000,000 results, today it is ranked 41 of 202,000,000 how can this possibly be unless something very very strange (or seriously wrong) is occuring. Did another 80,000,000 sites really appear over night, and did I really pick up the 1000's of links it would require for me to jump 78 places? It seems like a lost cause working on SEO with such random results. James.
Google could have just reordered/updated its results for your keywords. Consider yourself lucky that your rank improved
OK, it's not like GOD says there's that many sites with that particular phrase and it's not like Google is all bitched up just because they are not perfect, there are some delays and delayed ebb and flow with Google as they find stuff - incorporate into there algo/search positions, don't be concernened too much, but at the same time keep an eye on it :-P. Eric
heh, nice one Eric, They just happened to find 80 million results hiding away in a drawer somewhere. I'm not all panicing about it,obviously I am pleased it's moving in the right direction. It's just implausible to worry about on page seo if things continue like this. I assume I must be an isolated case then. James
Google's database is an "impression" of what is out there on the web, not reality. It's not like they host all these web sites. Consider if you were building a search engine, it's a tough job! Eric
Something is seriously wrong with google when your site disappears? Join the club mate you are now a official webmaster. Millions of webmasters fluctuate. What else do you expect when they are all competing? When you lose positions it is either because you have slacked and haven't kept up with your rankings, your competitor got a head on you or some of your backlinks were discredited. Either way you need to keep up with them or you lose them.
Its not crazy as the same has happened to 1 one of my sites. Its now up in the top pages using about 10 different keywords and some i didnt even have listed that shocked the heck out of me . The site was built in march so im thinking that google let off some filters for keywords and 1 foot out of the so called sandbox effect. I have been told and read in many places that this happens to most websites for up to 1 and a half years. My 2 cents worth anyway thx malcolm
My understanding is that strange google results / PR results is based on the fact that you're pulling data from different data centers.
