Is Social Marketing and Promotion the Way of the Future?

I personally think that social marketing and promotion is the way of the future, and by working on it over time, you can probably build a better amount of traffic than you could by focusing your efforts on Google by itself.

It is quite easy to add friends on Facebook, and get Twitter followers, and StumbleUpon followers, and You Tube subscribers, or at least it is if you know how. Once you have these connections, they are like a list of sorts, and you can convert them into subscribers on an actual mailing list, or many different ones.

I am finding it hard to get thousands of social connections a day, although I know I could buy more if I had a bit more money to play with. Has anyone got tips on how to increase your social following quickly, apart from the usual places like Twiends, and on the sites themselves?

I would like to figure out a way to build thousands of social connections on Facebook in particular every day, for free. I guess you would probably just need multiple accounts, wouldn't you? I can't afford to buy the software like Twitter Adder, but I may be looking into that in the future.

What are your thoughts on social promotion, and do you think that it's a better thing to work on than SEO?

Surely it depends on your market? I'd like to see you make social marketing effective if you were working on a plumbing supplies account.
