Is social bookmarking still a good option?

While browsing another forum, I came up with a lists of social bookmarking sites and I am wondering if submitting your site into this lists still worth a time...

Social bookmarking sites are not powerful today as they used to be.
It could be a good way to attract attention to a site. However, it is not a good way to build backlinks anymore, as some sites such as Digg is becoming nofollow sites these days.

 

Social bookmarking is the good option to get non targeted traffics. A lot of tools available and you can submit the url to more than 100 sites in less than 10 minutes. Btw, i don't recommend social bookmarking because non targeted traffics don't convert well. Just my 2 cents.

Also, it is good to help get sites indexed faster as well.

 

Posting to tons of social media sites won't do much good, but can be useful for getting a new site indexed quickly. Some social media sites can be very good for traffic, but they have to be relevant and you have maintain a presence there.

I actually don't worry about nofollow anymore, since Bing and Yahoo ignore it and a recent test from someone in the SEO community (names escapes me right now, sorry) has proven that Google still looks at them too.

 

I think social bookmarking is only good for fast indexing, other than that, not really good for long term seo..

 

It can be useful.Why not have a try to see the effect?This doesn't need your money.All that you do is just spending

Social bookmarking is the fastest way to have a website indexed by Google. Besides that, a link is a link, the more the better, no matter what people say...

 

The reason why I am asking is because I posted one of my clickbank's promotional page to that lists (around 120 social bookmarks) and after 6 days, my page ramped into google's page and made sales.. and that is with a very competitive keywords... and I don't know yet if my page will stay there...

 

So your site got good Google rankings and all you did was submit it to a lot of social bookmarking sites?

 

The article I submitted actually is an old blog post (clickbank promotional post) and ranked in about 5th to 6th page.. After submissions, it is now on first page and got 2 sales yesterday... I just noticed the new ranking yesterday...

 

I only uses 6 social bookmarking sites with only 1 account yet
my posts are ranking ok, can't complain.

 

you must be doing any other promotion method...

 

You get good tools that lets you submit to many social bookmarking sites for free and at the same time. So social bookmarking is still an easy way to get some goods extra floods of traffic, but not so much for long term.

 

I am not using any tool.. I am doing it manually with the aid of Firefox plugin informenter

 

There is no SEO gained however you do get some traffic.

 

yea it works. It may gives you backlinks, exposure and the chance to get more authority for your content.

The best thing though is generating traffic: I've created a character on facebook which has about 4k friends. It's targeted (I give friendship only to those who might be interested in my content) and a single post can generate enough attention and traffic.

Be creative, it's all about catching people's attention.
