Is social bookmarking important?

For last two years i am doing seo. But i haven't tested many seo techniques. But now i want to do social bookmarking.I am not aware of it..Is it a good method? Or will i get a good result by doing bookmarking?Please give me a suggestion. And tell me one thing , how much bookmarking i should do for a day??If this method is effective, i need a good list of bookmarking site. I hope you will help me..I am waiting for your reply, friends...Please help me....Thanks in advance......

 

It's probably one of the best seo tactics out there. However you have to be careful as it can be very easy to abuse. The general idea is to sign up for a social bookmarking site like Digg or Del.icio.us and then bookmark sites that you genuinely find appealing and useful. Then if other people like the sites you bookmark, they can bookmark them too. The advantage to this is that all these bookmarks are online so anyone can see you bookmarks at any time and share them if they would like. It is a place for content to get exposure and become viral. Once you build up some bookmarks that yu like, you can start bookmarking a few of your own links. This gets them online and visible to other people who might find them interesting. Then you just hope that the content is good enough and the site goes viral. You should really use social bookmarking as naturally as you can and just use it for your own personal bookmarking purposes. Then throw in your own links every once in a while and see if they generate any response. I don't know if there is a rule of thumb for how many of your own links to post in a given time span but I might recommend putting up one every two weeks, so it doesn't look like you are just spamming people and trying to market your product.

It really depends on how you use it and if you have realistic goals for it. Some sites and/or pages can do very well with social bookmarking. Others won't see any noticeable changes.

I see a few benefits using these:

1) If you're bookmarking a page or website that really is "bookmark worthy" (that is, specifically created to draw interest and viral backlinks) and not just some random article or blog post that isn't interesting for a lot of people, and you get it promoted on a popular site like Digg, Reddit, etc - that can lead to a substantial amount of temporary traffic and probably some additional (viral) backlinks.

2) You may receive indirect search engine traffic from social bookmarks

3) You may receive some visits from some of the popular social bookmarking sites (besides the uber-popular sites like Digg)

4) Social bookmarks can substantially help with the discovery of your content by search engines - videos, deep links, articles on article directories, documents and so forth

5) Some bookmarking sites are 'dofollow' and may help your SEO efforts by passing a small amount of link value along with building keyword relevancy for your bookmarked pages


I do quite well with some niche sites using social bookmarking only (usually after 50-100 directory submissions) and content updates. However, I don't see social bookmarking helping at all in high-competition keyword markets as a standalone link building method as it pertains to increased search engine rankings. At least beyond helping with the discovery of some of your website's internal pages or helping with the discovery of your backlinks like on Web2.0 sites.

Overall, social bookmarking can result in some temporary traffic gains and can get some low-value backlinks to speed up the discovery process of some of your pages, but it's not a good standalone link building tactic and doesn't seem able to produce substantial value for high-competition markets, especially in the long term.

I use them frequently and I recommend them as well, but just know that they're not some magical solution that will propel your websites to the top of Google's search results. At least not consistently and not permanently absent other factors.

I don't think social bookmarking is a great way to get links. But you can use Digg and Stumpleupon to get traffic to your website cause these are the most used sites over the net.
