for my business it is essential to know if smart pricing is temporary. The adsense revenue covers the bandwidth, so i'm curious if smartpricing is a temporary issue.

    Anybody knows that?

Strongly doubt that it would temporary. These things seem to stick around a long time.

No, you will get more and more smart priced as the days pass by
another problem is nothing pays well for international traffic other than adsense

Smart pricing gets readjusted on a weekly basis. If you think you're suddenly being smart priced, try and figure out why it might have happened. If you're getting a temporary influx of poorly-converting traffic, say, then things will readjust themselves quickly once the traffic dies off. If you made some changes to your sites that are leading to more clicks for you but less conversions for the advertisers, that might be the culprit.

And remember, smart pricing affects your entire account, not just one site in the account.... (See Chapter 35 of my book.)

So do you suggest registering each site as its own business with the State and then getting a business bank account and seperate adsense account for each?

Why is Google so stupid as to punish all sites for one sites performance???

    Commit no evil....what a crock....

Do I recommend setting up separate accounts? That's somewhat of an extreme reaction, but it's certainly possible. You'd have to weigh the pros and cons to see if it's worth the hassle of all the extra paperwork involved, though, and there's no guarantee that all those separate accounts wouldn't themselves be smart priced.

If you're doing dodgy stuff, setting up a separate account for all your whitehat sites is probably a good idea, though. But not everyone who gets smart priced is being dodgy.

Joel Comm touches on smart pricing in one of his SEO books. It might be worth a read. :)

    Not doing anything dodgy

However lets say I get into things at the forefront or leading edges...So now I have a group of sites 70+

I have two that focus on ipods and adsense / affiliate income....

another 8 myspace resource sites / adsense / affiliate / my own ad network

Another network of Amazon Store / Overstock stores

A network of proxies - adsense / adversal

Real estate marketing sites - adsense / affiliate

A network of search engine / internet marketing sites Adsense / Client Fees

Stand alone original content sites white hat seo...

I also do lead gen campaigns off my main host site...

No artificial link building across any of the sites ,,,,not even interlinked except within the networks.

Sitting on their own dedicated server and I am seeing smart pricing but it seems to come and go across everything....well except the myspace sites which are almost stamped out to pennies ....

So in trying to earn multiple streams of income I am hurting myself in the current structure.....

What I am thinking is one main business for the different niche / categories I am in. Then having the network of sites fall under each of those....less expensive and paperwork reduced this way as opposed to 70+ businesses...

Your case is not typical, not with so many sites. With all those sites you do have a good case for setting them up as separate businesses. In a sense, you'd be setting up business structures that will probably reflect how you're already linking the sites together for SEO purposes. I know nothing about your sites and how they're organized, but presumably you've got some interlinking happening between sites in the same niche, with few or no links between the different niches. Setting up a separate account for each niche makes sense in many different ways. Just off the top of my head:

    • You can more easily sell off a niche if you get tired of it (sell the business and its associated AdSense account comes automatically)
    • You get SEO bonus points for grouping relevant sites together
    • Smart pricing in one niche won't affect your other niches
    • Getting an account banned or suspended won't dry up your entire income stream
    • The AdSense algorithms will serve very well-targeted ads because of the other sites in the group
    • You can offer site-targeted advertising on a niche-by-niche basis

    Probably other stuff I"m forgetting....

Agreed and thank you for the validation and other pros mentioned...

However I am doubtful as to Adsense usage having any bearing on SEO rankings within the line of white hat SEO. It may if one was trying to manipulate rankings. But to gain rankings in the organics, grouping sites within Adsense wont help, as I have many client and personal sites ranked at the top for high traffic keys, and none have any dealings with Adsense.

    :D

Its a nice thought though ......but I think more wishful thinking may be involved. ;)

You misunderstand what I wrote. I didn't say AdSense had any bearing on SEO. I said SEO has an effect on AdSense. It's true, if you analyze the AdSense patent you'll see that the topics of the sites that you link to have an effect on the targeting of your own site, as do the links from other sites to yours. The things you do to a page for SEO purposes (good title, keyword in URL, use of and keyword in headings, keyword variations, links to related sites, etc.) also benefit your AdSense targeting.

But of course, you'd know all this if you bought my book, since you get a free copy of my full analysis of the AdSense patent when you buy it....

Ooops, here come the ebook flamers...

Yes I did misunderstand and your points are valid as for the effects good SEO work can have on your sites revenue earning potential.

Yes, just wait a week or two and see. If it doesn't get fixed, you can email Google and ask them to take a look to see what's wrong.

If you get smart priced disable adsense for a few days, some people have said this has removed it.
