Is Simple good?

I would move the links closer together, there is a lot of wasted space and a longish scroll for such a simple site.

I'l also have a line of text letting the visitor know what the site was.

 

Do you mean the green column where I have the list of articles? If I make it narrower it would have to be longer which would leave a lot of white space at the end of the main article. Perhaps I can do that where the main article is long.
Or can you think of any other way of doing it?

 

Simple is good if it's tasteful and rather than shabby-looking.

For your site, there's too much space and too many links. It doesn't look appealing. Try adding simple favicon style logos to draw eyes to the links.

 

Thank you for making these points. I will look into them all. I think you mentioned set-width because I have some gaps. That is because I removed some subjects as they fitted into other subjects. I will fix this soon.
What is the difference between co-op search and the one I have now?
What background colour would you suggest so that it doesn't hide the text?

 

Maybe switch that space to the other side? The article needs to stand out more and the list of other articles is secondary in importance.

I have taken all your suggestions on board and at the moment I am trying to categorize the subjects. I will try to make the page more colourful so that I can have white a background as this seems to be popular.
