I guess links from directories and bookmarking sites are less important in Google's algorithm since it is easy to submit to the directories and social bookmarks using submission software and submission services.

Everyone is always complaining SEO is dead. It is not dead, people just need to adjust and adapt! :)

IMO now is not a bad time to be a SEO as there are some really simple WHITEHAT stuff you can do to improve your traffic. A lot of the whitehat stuff is working well right now.

See my posts in the copywriting forum.

the ultimate goal of Google will ALWAYS be that SEO *per se* should actually be IMPOSSIBLE, since SEO (per definition) is an artificial manipulation of search results.

All what google does is improve their algos to filter "real" content, good content...and (if possible) filter out anything artificial.

However, with the latest "google brand favoritism" change Google slapped themselves, they are deciding on their own now who ranks well and who not. There was a MAJOR algo change this january with big favoritism of brands, GOV, EDU and things like that.

SEo, ultimately, will be eliminated and unnecessary and the focus (even more) will be good content, good content, good content.

The SEOs will turn into "content producers", which many of them are already.

The times of slapping 10000s links with the same anchor are over, its useless. And google will always work against SEO, in a certain way.

Enjoy SEO as long as it still does anything.....seriously.

    GeorgR.

I'm the one who had started this tread and I'm in full agreement with what you had written,
particularly "SEo, ultimately, will be eliminated and unnecessary and the focus (even more) will
be good content, good content, good content."

I believe that with quality contents, web 2.0 sites would be helpful in driving focus organic traffic.

You are a true Spirit Walker!!!

It's becomming more complicated but it's not dead. Social networks do deliver traffic but not of the same quality as a search engine

    qazu,

You wrote "Social networks do deliver traffic but not of the same quality as a search engine".

Do you mean that the delivered by SEs are of better quality (more focussed)?

as long as there are algorithms and the search engines send traffic there will be search engine optimisation.

seo spend is increasing and will continue to grow. it's not even close to dying.
