What is Social Media? Over the last 12 months, there has been a huge surge in Social Media Marketing (SMM). What is it? How did it come about? In the early stages, not many years ago, social sites like Facebook, MySpace and Bebo were seen as the place to be – but this was from a social standpoint where you would go and post photos, meet others with similar interests – somewhere to hang out on-line with friends. I remember wondering back then if it was going to be worthwhile having a company name – I left it! Only a few years down the line, things are very different! dear may you are right but the SEO time has finish & SMM is keep going up like the facebook it has targeted that in this month it has cross 375 million active user. so the people can do the SMM they have got the traffic much faster then SEO
SEO has far from finished! Do you think Facebook is the place a company would go if they were looking for a neuro surgeon? Nope - they would search for a specialist agency - both have their uses and neither should be ignored!
I agree on this.. and as SEO is not at all a hard task anymore so we don't need to sit for hours behind writing contents and generating backlinks.. Outsourcing is on the high but there is also a matter where we need to think about data security.
To me, the two of them go hand in hand. One can help you get noticed in the other. I do think it is going to allow individual business owners to be able to compete on a more level playing field with professional SEO's....which is a really, really good thing in the long run.
SEO is by no means dead, it's a great way to gain traffic by (pretty much) doing nothing. However, social media sites like Digg and Facebook help spread your link around so it can get indexed by search engines, which is great!
SMM will change dramatically in the future whilst SEO will but not as much, the main search concept of SEO will remain, so if there is something that will die, it will more likely be SMM than SEO.
SEO won't die in the near future because search traffic is still the number one income source of Google.
sure and Google is showing signs it will take this traffic and squeeze more money out of it for itself ... remember this traffic is not yours ... it belongs all to Google.
SEO is not dead, and never will be, due to the structure of the web. However, SMM is on the rise too, but it has its limits, due to the long term unreliability of these social netoworks.
Hi Every one, Intersting conversation here. I have been working on SMM from the past 2 months and frankly speaking I don't have any idea abt SEO. So I will only say abt SMM. SMM is going to get stronger. 1)People will get updates, latest news and useful info from corporate fanpages/twitter accounts. 2)The amount of people on social networks is just amazing and a small and medium business can make full use of it, by popularising their product in the internet. Plus marketing is literally for free and covers a huge no. of active users.
Dear Ashish, If you have informative, interesting content then you are little success in Social Media. Yes its true a news website is built for the social media not all the websites. If you add any url related to finance website, digg will ban your ip address in a day. You cannot promote financial websites, credit card websites on social media. I do both smm and seo. And in my opinion SEO will never down. There are some drawbacks of social media optimization : a) You must online daily. Notice your friends. Respect their words. b) Daily update your website with interesting articles and then request your friends or groups directly or indirectly to visit your link. c) We cannot seo daily on a website, it can again penalize our website for overoptimization. But if you want regular visitors using smm, daily new article needed on your website. d) When you success in seo, little seo work will give you daily traffic and no need to work daily, but not in the case of social media. If you login in social media more than 1 week, serious people will remove you from their friend list or ignore you like in digg. How many people agree with my points. If I am wrong then please write correct explanation.
Well if you're doing SEO for clients without considering social media and blogs etc you're doing it wrong. SEO is more than getting meta tags right and adding a few keywords to image alt and title tags.
