I had a discussion with a friend and he told me that SEO is dead and to focus more on social media and to figure out a way to create buzz so that a major news organization picks it up and features it to its viewers. i told him SEO works. but my traffic is not huge. so im second guessing my self now, what do you guys think?

SEO is definately still alive and very important part of your marketing. however as always with google, some of the rules have changed. avoid content farms and spammed blogs. focus on guest blogging and social submissions. article marketing is still worth the link and gives a boost to serps, as long as you supply unique content and you will still gain some traffic from it. Avoid reciprocal links unless it is another webmaster in your niche. Randomize any type of linkwheel and never close the wheel.
