In my opinion it will certainly have a negative impact for us webmasters who rely heavily upon SEO - but it won't kill it.

It would be great if a lot of people think that. Less competition for us that don't. :)

Well I've seen it increase my traffic slightly, although I wouldn't describe my keywords as 'long tail'. Part of the reason is the predictive nature. I tend to rank better at the moment for plural words rather than the single - but as your on the way to typing in the singular the plural results are shown predictively. It can work both ways.

I disagree. When people search at Google they aren't out there just seeing "what Google has to offer today." People don't type 'e' and pause to see what is going to show up. They start typing the phrase they think will give them the results they are after. For those who can actually type, they will see very few versions of "instant search" results show up along the way. If they hunt and peck... then they will see lots of results.

I don't see this changing search at all for people who know what they are looking for... especially once the "newness" has worn off. The suggest feature at Google was cool when it first came out, but I never use it. I type in what I want and never look at the dropdown of suggestions before hitting search. I think the same will be the fate of instant search.

It's going to change search for those people who don't know how to spell what they are looking for... or who are not quite sure what they should be searching for to find their desired results.

Actually SEO (Search engine optimization) has long been dead. All that remains is GO (Google optimization).

I think Google's Keyword tools will start to reflect the new search volumes keywords are getting due to the change over to Instant, and webmasters will optimize for those keywords as they always have.

Google still has to get it's results from somewhere. Maybe you'll need to get "better" at SEO, so it this kills off some of the week competition, I see that as a good thing for SEO overall.

It is definitely not the death of SEO, that is just classic link baiting (or paranoia)

Might make it more difficult for those targeting long tail keywords though

Google instant will not kill SEO. But from now, we have to more focus on short words keywords. Always note one thing that when google changes his criteria and techniques, then we have to follow it to become No.1 in SERP.
