Is SEO a dying art?

With the risks now involved in over optimising a site or excessive link building is it possible to still be successful as an SEO consultant?

SEO is not all about backlinks. Whatever you do to make your site stand and be found on the first page of search results is SEO - at least that's how I see it. So, it will not die as long as there are search engines out there.

People lose sight of what SEO really is... It's not massive link building... it's not tricking search engines in to thinking your site is more popular than what it is. It's optimizing your site in a way where relative traffic can find your site. Using the right keywords, creating content, building online reputation, social branding, and building relative quality links. That's what it is. It's never going to be "dead" or a "dying art".

SEO still works for those who are expert or well manageable in handling SEO campaign. It was useless to become an SEO if your don't know how to work well with your job in handling one SEO campaign for your client site.

The best way is to be as natural as possible in whatever SEO methods you employ. Over optimizing may apparently seem to have perks, but eventually the Search Engine will catch you and penalize you.

SEO won't die just that it more competitive compare to previous . SEO consultant need to know the action going to take after every google panda and google penguin update.
SEO methods might same all the time but the way they did it will be different time to times. Google is killing all site that over optimize, so as an expert consultant do need have a way to overcome it and go with other methods which able to help in SEO .

If Google killing over optimize site then they need to work smart with more quality content and quality backlink compare to quantities. Target on phrase keywords rather than exact keywords .

People are getting diverted to Social Media sites or other sites giving much information but this never mean that SEO dies. SEO has its own impact at its place.

People who tell you SEO is dead, are only trying to further eliminate their competition.
