Selling paid links will hurt your Google rankings as well as your page rank. I have gone through many sites that have gone from pr 4 to pr 2 or 0 for selling paid links. If you are willing to do paid linking, add no follow with them. Then Google will have no problems with your link selling

I have that same question. And does Google really have the time to check every site manually? Is that even possible? I've never had paid links on mine so I don't know from experience.

Google have its new policy, If you sell links, Google might indeed penalize your site plus drop the PageRank score that shows for it.

I think they will only penalize your pagerank but this will not affect rankings. Or so that's what some webmasters claim.

Officially Google have not announced its Policy regarding Paid links Detection, i.e,. How it will Check weather its a paid link or just an outbound link.

Its just a Guess by some SEO expert that Google will check it manually, though i dont agree with this theory as there are trillions of sites in google and how they can check all.

They use special mind-control rays to look into your brain and see the intent behind every link you place. After all, that's what the G-stapo is here for.

Yes they take away page rank which is meaningless anyway - but seems to get a lot of people worked up.

I've not seen any evidence that they take away rankings. Sometimes rankings are lost from linking to bad neighbourhoods - but that is something different although can result from selling links.

I don't have any evidence that rankings drop from selling links, either. However, I would venture to guess that it does. If Google says not to do it, don't. Why tempt them?

It's not possible for Google to know what's a paid link and what's not in all cases. However, I know some text link sites will have a link seller place a special code in their sites for automatically updating links on their site. It seems to me Google could probably detect the link systems' footprints in these cases. Another way they could detect these links is when someone places an "advertise here" or "sponsor" section on their site without nofollowing the links in those sections. There are countless examples of sites doing this without any form of penalty, however.

Selling links can hurt your page rank but I'm not sure if it will hurt your rankings, you should be cautious.

Only the Google Gods know. And you must never question Googles intentions with your website. Major no no. your site may have just been deindexed for even posting such a thread here at DP. Especially with Matt Cutts being a member here, :D JK
