I found a site that allow you to submit to several search engine at once, but I just wonder is that really useful compare if you submit it like bookmark or article directories?
Your site will get indexed as long as you have links going to it, the higher quality link the better. I am not an expert at seo but you can check seobook.com for tips on how to get good search rankings.
I would suggest you do not pay for a search engine submission service. Like the posts above say, you can get indexed quiet quickly by just having some links back to your site. Do some article marketing or blog commenting to get Google to notice you and the other search engines. But with Google, Yahoo, and MSN/Bing being the most popular, those are the main 3 to be concerned with.

you dont need to. I never submit my blogs directly to search engines. I just put my links on other social sites like twitter and digg, and some high pr blogs. and my blogs normally get indexed within a couple of days.

i think you should not submit your site in search engine's becoz Every Search Engine's spiders will crawl your site automatically, in case any search engine not crawl your site then you must submit your site in search engines. thanks
My opinion is search engine submission is useful because after completing the on page you have to do off page optimization, because of your site have to index in all search engines, after that you can do all SEO link building process.
