Cloaking, as you would know, is considered black hat and will attract punitive action from search engines. In the short it may deliver some goods but in the long run it would do more harm than good.

My advise, stay away from it.

When it is detected, all SEs will ban the site. But if it continues, then the host is hit. Think of it this way, Google, Yahoo and MSN compare the "Cached" versions of you site. Not equal is a human review.

It that is not enough, then a competitor or ex employee will report you.

Cloaking is highly complicated and hard to pull off.

Search engines dont just use multiple user agents they use multipe ip addresss from more than one geolcation. Whilst some say they do get away with it, They also admit that the google slap does come after hours days or at MOST weeks. It's just a matter of time until you get caught.

    Well depends upon your needs....
It is effective !!! but for short span of time.

But when the site gets ready to get into business "for long Run"... you are "BANNED"
Imagine your site disappearing from all the search engines "Its a nightmare"

My say is follow "White Hat SEO" for a rigid development of your website.

No, and also don't do that because Google has a big team for detection of spam......and to avoid Google Penalization you should do only ethical way of optimization with your website.

I've tried cloaking and paid the price - definitely best to avoid!

It depends. But I would stay away from it. Last time I spent some money on some cloaking products, then spent a long long time setting it up, then in the end I gave up because there were just too much pre-cautions to take.

Maybe if u have a s*it domain name that you want throw away, u can give it a shot.
