Is Santorum Really Doing This Well?

I'd have figured Santorum would fade with his bible thumping, right wing religious zealot views, but apparently the social conservatives are out in masse and force trying to elect something that should be separate from politics. I'm not sure what to make of this. I know Huckabee had a decent following, but I'm not sure he was as ridiculous as Santorum. I guess I'm not surprised though.

I know Romney's most likely to win, I wanted Paul, but he's my second choice as I can't stand Gingrich Khan either. However, I wanted to hear what everybody thought about Santorum and the success he's having. Any thoughts....

Santorum is Murdoch's baby. I hadn't heard of him here in Australia until the news mentioned Rupert's 2nd tweet, choosing Santorum as his preferred candidate. I guess having friends like that on your side might possibly make other people look more seriously at you. Now we hear much more about him, and he seems like another whackjob to me.

Ah Rupert! Is he still Australian or has he been disowned? There's a man who likes to put his mark on a country's politics. Make that multiple countries.

I think we kicked him out didn't we? He got a big fail on the 'good Aussie bloke' scale and we certainly don't want him back. Now we just need to work out how to get him to take his media assetts with him.

Calling Santorum a whackjob would be similar to calling Jim Jones of the People's Temple in the 1970's an honest and reasonable man.

True. Santorum is no more whacky religous right than Obama is looney revolutionary left. That said, they are both too extreme for my blood. If Santorum became the nominee, I'd vote third party. I think you would see Don Trump or Bloomberg run, though I wouldnt vote for Bloomberg either.

Now imagine a world where the future of America and the free world depended on the outcome of an election between Obama and Santorum. . . I envision figurative air raid sirens and those videos of the mushroom cloud and shockwaves blowing through the houses like paper walls.

I doubt that he will be the nominee.

I think on the GOP side its simply that the extreme right has been dramatically anti-Romney. over the course of this primary process they have jumped from anti-romney flavor of the month again and again and again. Bachman, Cain, Perry, Gingrich....now Santorum. They have tried to get some others involved who have declined. All of the others have ultimately come up short for one reason or another. I also view Santorum as a religious overly controlling zealot.

Not if it's Santorum. Most Americans will NOT vote for someone so devoted to adding religion into the mix and what some consider a bible thumping zealot. Obama wins that hands down. Now, I think Romney will have a good shot at taking on Obama, but definitely not Santy's Cause.

It may not be radical enough to fit you. I'll come up with something more accurate.

Romney survives the south and picks up a net of 5 delegates.

If you notice also, Santy is winning in states that contain a higher than average number of evangelicals and religious right. Winning in deep south states as well as certain midwest states doesn't surprise me. When he starts to win in states like California and New York, then I'll start to worry. I'm curious to see how Paul does in my home state of Texas since he has his Congressional district by our coast line. It's such a large state. I think that he'll get a lot of support in the southern part of the state, but lose slightly to Romney. Just a prediction though.
