Is running your own directory a good way to make cash? Just curious cos there is a lot of them about, they must be profitable, but then the fact that there is so many may mean that they aren't that profitable?

And a cross ball came in from the left wing and Peter Crouch headed home the winner :)

And the home supporters then went home to work on their directories ;)

No sorry our director for our directories is a fat boy from Liverpool, Rooney is his name, but I follow all the top teams in the Premier Directory

But we have a keyboard guy working on a PC Directory Xabi is his name :)

Like any business there are risks and rewards, but be careful a very high competitive business like for example hosting very low barriers to entry.

If you want to run a directory to get cash forget that idea, having and maintain a directory is more than that. But if you work very well and do a good promotion to your directory, sure it pays off

    For sure.

My directory recovered all investment (including domain, hosting, links and script) within a month. None of my other sites turned profitable so fast.

Right now, there is no shortage of people willing to buy links in directories. Maybe someday the SEs will start ignoring directories; but till then it is easy money.

Keep the directory free for few days and then make it paid, else you will be wasting too much time approving links.

If you are going for a well promoted directory is hard to get the money back fast. I am spending loot more money in my Ask Directory than what I receive from submissions. If you go for cookie cutter low promoted directory probably you make money very fast, but lose potential on the long run.

Directories are fast become categorized the sites that will survive and prosper

against the QBC's that will just fade away.

To stay 'on top is difficult to get there is even harder'

Do not believe anyone who says it is easy money because for sure it is not under any circumstances

It's just like any other site, if you invest time and money you will eventually make money.
The main characteristic of directories imo is that they require patience, you may build a directory and make a quick buck early or be patient and make much more in the long run.

remember, lots of quality directories out there with intense competition. You shouldnt think about money with directories all time, rather you have to focus in building quality directory and money will come later. you must be willing to work hard. thats crucial for success.

remember, everything takes time. but somone had to start somewhere.

    good luck!
