Hello, i have one situation. I have RSS filed which is displayed on one popular web site. They drive me some amount of traffic and that is good side. But I noticed that I started to get less visitors from google and that that site is better ranked on content that is my. Is RSS bad for SEO in this cases (should I remove my filed from that site) ?
It depend, If the RSS only puts a link from the other site to yours, it doesn't harm. But when the full post is displayed on the others site and the site gets crawled first it might happen that Google thing that this site was the first one and then your site has the duplicated content, which can cause negative effects. So be sure that Google knows that your site is the first with the content and that the other site in only a linker. If you are not sure just Google on some keywords you wrote about which doesn't have to many hits. Then if the other site ranks first and yours second or even doesn't rank, than you might be better of to remove the RSS from the others site. But better is to pm me the link to your site and to the others site with the rss, then I can give a better advice.
Don't display all the content in the rss feed, only an extract from each article. This is easily achieved in wordpress.
Normally, RSS feed use only top/main of the content of your site. But You can config the RSS for the new.
I looked at your site (which looks great by the way :-P) and I think that the problem is that the difference in the amount of text between the rss sites and your site is small. And if the rss sites have a bigger autority then your site will get down. Also is it not a really fair link because the link to your site is in an iframe which means that Google might think (but don't have to) that your page is a part of the rss site. So you are better of by removing the links from the rss sites. If it doesn't ad value but harm, then remove it. But you should have links to the pages otherwise it will not show up anymore so use socialbookmarking insteed. Socialbookmark sites are still the better ways to get links and they are not in an iframe! digg etc. look whether they are dofollow sites or socialbookmark sites in your own language. Also having links from directories and of course this forum will help. So in short: remove the bad links, ad more content to crawl and ad more links to get crawled.
If your site is ranking, those people using auto-blogging software might use your RSS to to generate contents on their automatic blog.
rruben thank You for Your help. I requested removing my rss from two rss aggregations and will make changes to one with which I have contract.
Your welcome. But still try to get links to the pages, only now from sources which doesn't cause duplicated content in a negative way. Duplicated content itself doesn't have to be bad, but then Google has to see your site as the original/first one.
Blogtoplist extracts RSS-generated articles and this site ranks high in Google. But when you check the site, you can't find a link of your article.
