I think faith is all there is to religion - just a belief. Any high school student of world history can tell you that religion changes over time to adapt to people's needs. In my opinion, it would be an intelligent claim to say that there's no divine truth to a concept that adapts to its creators and people who pass it on. Someone once said, You know your god is man-made when he hates all the same people you do. I couldn't agree more strongly with that statement.

Yeah, I agree with the OP's analysis. Religion takes the fall for the actions of people a good portion of the time. In reality, it is just a belief that they can somehow justify killing human beings. It doesn't matter if you are athiest or not, you can have that belief regardless of what religion or, non-religion, if you will, you are part of.

Here's a historical fact to prove my point above. During the middle ages, like India, Western Europe was politically disunited and disorganized, except for a brief period under Charlemagne. In the early Middle Ages, Western Europe had a lower standard of material life than other parts of Afro-Eurasia. But after 1,000C.E., its economy would recover and the Catholic Church would be a source of unity and stability. Under the leadership of Clovis who gained the support of Christians in Gaul and the papacy, the Franks became the most powerful of the German tribes that overran the western Roman Empire.

Although, religion is a large part of culture. For example, in the same time period, Charlemagne was coronated "Emperor of the Romans" in 800C.E. this showed how German, Roman and Catholic traditions blended to form the basis of Medieval European Culture. This is proof that religion, although it can be a source of unity, can also cause wars and break up nations. It all depends on the circumstances.

I agree with those sentiments whole heartedly as well. But then they make sense... and there is no room for that in religious circles from what I've seen.

Yes, because what else makes sense? Science. And science doesn't mix well with religion.

well, actually, atheism is rising everywhere, the second biggest affiliation in the world except christianity, but since there's Roman Catholic, about 100 different brands of prodestant, and Greek Cristian, you're not really cohesive.

Not to stand up for Islam, but I think a lot of people know that that Jihad - popularized in the media as a synonym for "terrorism" and killings of innocent lives - actually means "Holy war". But not many know what this "holy war" is. It's a struggle for your faith. Which doesn't explicitly mean "wrap yourself up in dynamite and set that sh** off somewhere" - it simply means spread the word about your religion. Sure, extremists exist in any religion (there are crazy Christians, too), but Jihad basically means a struggle for your faith. Whether you go around places giving talks about the good sides of Jihad, or teaching Mohammad's word through writing and such - that's your Jihad.

We blame every single one of our problems on religion or on al CIAda. Have you ever thought about where you lie in the whole equation. I think the problem is in us as individuals.

The problem, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars but ourselves.

God just created Adam and eve, and the humans multiplied from there. Humans created religions, caste and differences from their own idiotic mind. They should know that every human being on this planet is his relative in some way or the other. We all will die one day then why these differences?
