I start to see a lot of member here asking for ranking stuffs and I just wonder is ranking something that very important to a website? Any comments? Thanks
My job site ranks between 2 and 4 for "jobs in my Area" which is a big search term but only gets 40 dollars a month in ad revenue (and around 50 daily visitors). Which is fine and helps pay the web hosting bills for my 5 sites. However, based on the Google and wordtracker keyword tools my site should get 5 times more people (and that's with 10 percent of searchers clicking on the site). Ranking is important but often the keyword tools underestimate the actual visitors looking for a keyphrase.
hi ranking is important to get free traffic from search engines but some people dont bcoz they use alternate advertising sources to get traffic such as pay per click ,banner advertising etc
Ya, it depends on marketing strategy of websites like SEO, pay per click, article submission, back links, social book marking, link building.
Traffic from search engines is the best type of traffic you can get, so definitely shoot for some high ranking keywords in Google. I am reforming my web 2.0 blog and I want to hit Google's SERPS for many keywords like digg, reddit, web 2.0, interviews, etc...
Ranking mainly determines how much traffic you will be getting from search engines. This means more free traffic. Having a low rank does not mean your site will fail though. As you work on your site and promote it more, your ranking will increase.
yeah, ranking is vital, just like you find something through Google or Baidu, you will click the link ranked at the top ones,
Definitely, that's one of the most important part of marketing especially when you're in the web services.
Yes if your site is ranked well for important keywords you will have more traffic. If you get more relevant traffic you will generally get more sales.
Of course it's not VITALLY important, but it's a great addition to traffic. I've got sites that get 100+ visitors per day without having a single ranking, basically 0 visitors from Google (ok like 15 a month) because it's targeting too competitive words... Iv'e used other marketing to make it popular. Other sites are ONLY getting SEO traffic and they get 100+ vistiors per day from the search engines, much in the same way. I like both ways, but the best is to combine them, of course. That will bring a lot of traffic. Many people talk about SEO, but have no idea what the heck they are talking about and VERY MUCH over estimate their SEO traffic. SERP #3 in Google gets less than 45% of the clicks, #4 might get about 20% at best... anything worse than that and your ranking is basically worthless unless it's a very high traffic keyword. 2 sites I own rank #4 and #5 for 18,000 searches per month and 12,000 searches per motnh as well as #9 for 100,000+ searches per month keywords and they don't get more than about 150 per day combined... That's about hmm... like 4,500 per month or so, between 4,000 and 5,000 I should say... This is about, what, like 4,000/40,000 + 4,000/100,000 is not that much it's about 13% of all searches made or something. But the sites are only 5 weeks old so it will obviously rank higher eventually. I'll get back with more numbers then. Another site I have is ranked #1 for its keyword. That is a 5,400 searches a month (Google Adwords KE Tool).. It gets about 2,000 visitors a month... So people who say Oh, my site is ranking #1 on Google for like 1,000 searches per month with their article might not get as much traffic as you think... Trust me, experiecnce beats speculation =) - Chris
I think Jeremy Shoemaker says it best that you don't have to be totally concerned about it, but you don't want to ignore it either. Some people believe that SEO is the end-all be-all but really, if you have a good product and you are using other marketing techniques, you can be just as successful as if you ranked #1 for a popular keyword.
Abseloutly Yes if your site is ranked well for important keywords you will have more traffic. If you get more relevant traffic you will generally get more sales and $$$$$$$$$.
As I'm informed ranking is not so popular nowadays - better pay your attention to SERP - it is much more significant.
if your niche is highly competitive, offline promotion works pretty good. You can promote your website at local newspaper or TV.
Higher ranking will help you rank better so it is very important to have high rankings and get traffic.
