most people coming to the site will be pretty savvy when it comes to the web and be ad blind. The ctr will be horrible.
@dethfire I never had programming niche site but I believe they pay very very well, with that I mean +.30$ peer click at minimum, and I'm sure you will get a lot of +1$ clicks as well
Do what you want... Believe in your heart... Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, Heart... When your powers combined... If you are an expert coder, could you help me out? I am having a problem on getting a prime factor of a very large number that takes up the maximum number of characters in a *.txt file.
Along with adsense i will advice the inline advertisement like kontera, every major programming site has it. Cos you write programming and tech articles, they have abundance of keywords.
It works but make sure you have a lot of material. Programming websites have to be fairly large to make serious money.
I have a programming site. When it gets a click it can be anywhere from 1.00-2.00 or as low as 30-50 cents Really depends on the target. I have seen some good clicks over the last few months. Also some bad ones.
One thing I've noticed is adlinks do badly on programmers/webmasters sites, even if very well targeted. I guess you can't fool them into thinking they're normal links. But the average EPC is decent... when you do get a click. The CTR is not impressive.
tech sites get pretty good advertisers that pay well. i've also found that techie visitors are less inclined to click ads. but i personally think it'll easily pay for itself in terms of hosting and domain fees. and if you really like programming, then it shouldn't feel like hard work posting articles.
well, thanks guy for your input. I'm asking this because I myself do some experiment by put the programming tutorial in my blog (technology tricks in my sig) ... and I got many organic visitor for it.. guess what, that website is only a month by this 12th and it already got >2k unique visitor ... mostly traffic comes to two programming tutorial that I made myself (I'm a programmer... so it really easy for me to make tutorial from my previous project). of course I got adsense click for it but the ctr is very low. I just thinking to develop another website that contains all programming material and I think I just need to search for another suitable ads for it. thanks for your input guys.. really appreciate it.
I'm an applications developer myself and when I go to programming sites I would never click on the ads. Talking to my programming colleagues at work, they wouldnt click on the ads either. I think techy type people dont click on ads and your click through rate will be low.
I agree with that. We (programmer) will never click on ads ... then how can programming website make profit?
Most coders are used to not pay for anything. BUT if its a niche you know well, do it. Im sure some will click on some ads and you get paid for. The most important thing about the niche, is that you know it and love it, is the only way to develope good site and content.
I think any Niche is good for adsense. All you need to do is get traffic. "I plan to develop website that provide tutorial, source code, etc ..." Sounds interesting. If you are good in this Niche, then I suggest you proceed with this idea.
