But if your child doesn't have contact with others their age, they will never socially develop in the way they should, which would make it very hard for them in later life. Everybody needs contact with others their age, which is something they wouldn't get, or rather, wouldn't get as much of, if they were home schooled.

Weeman, you have a valid point, but there are kids groups that he can join for that like sports etc etc. Who made up the law that a kid needs to interact with kids in highschool for that, and when u go on college campuses and see those emergency contact polls for women that are scared to get raped what does that tell you about schools these days.School rapes were never this high in the 1950's. Maybe i just grew up in the wrong era

I have never heard of "emergency contact polls" and have never actually heard of a case of school rape, although I'm not saying they don't happen, I'm sure they do. Imagine a school as a smaller version of whatever country it is in, rape happens outside of schools, just as it happens inside schools.

What if your child never learned about these dangers, because they were protected from them? How would they know how to avoid these dangers. They wouldn't become 'street-wise', which I think is an important thing these days. I mean you can get mugged or worse just for looking at somebody in a certain way.

I probably have this view because my mother has always tried to protect me from the evils of the world. If had never gone to school, I would probably see the world as a much rosier place, which may seem like a good thing, but it can be a dangerous thing if you think all people are innocent.

I see where you're coming from, and I think I'm on the exact opposite side :)

I see that kids can join groups etc. But it's just not the same, I mean kids spend, what 6+ hours per day in school with their peers. Now compare that to a home schooled child, he can't make up those 6+ hours in sports groups etc. It just wouldn't be feasible, plus that is assuming the public schooled child didn't have any contact with his peers our of school.

That's my take on it anyway :)

(This is slightly confusing, here in the UK, we call private schools public schools and public schools state schools, I've never understood why either)

We grew up in queens new york and where we were there were gangs on every block, but we were more scared of dad then any gang out there lol.
Those belt whippings sure hurt lol. Weeman u need to come to sdsu americas no 3 party school lol. For me public school(especially middle school) was very tough as every day that u didnt see a fight was a holiday lol. If your a passivist go to private school .

Weeman i can see your point, but no way i will ever want my kid to go through what i went through . In public school i almost lost my soul.
