Is PR useless to increase SEPR?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by ruyy, May 11, 2010.

    Hello,

I am trying to increase my SEPR. To do that I need good keywords, content, ect...
If I have PR0 on my website I won't have a better position in SE than a PR5 website?
SO why does everyone tell me that trying to get high pr backlinks to higher my PR is useless if I want traffic???

With your PR0 website you can outrank a PR5 website.
It depends on many factors. Having a high PR is helping your ranking, but not the most important factor.

I agree with damnedfreak. There are many factors involved in SERP other than PR. Most important factors are fresh content, backlinks from similar contents, keywords in link text etc. i m interested to know more factors.

As a factor of Google search engine, it is still useful. However, it is really unnecessary to pay much attention to it.

In my experience, a good combination of on-site and off-site SEO is important.

Example: If you want to rank for "blue elephants on crack", your title should be the exact keywords, it should be in a H1 tag as well as in the meta tags. Your URL should contain that keyword as well, you should have a valid XML sitemap and submit that to Google Webmaster tools.

Assuming that your competitors for that factor have not done that, you can "easily" outrank a PR5 website within a few weeks if you have a good link building tactic.

to out rank pr5 sites with only pr0, you must still have atleast lots of backlinks and premium domain that the keyword is present.

i personally do not pay much attention to PR. I just make sure that the links I am getting are relevant to my website and are from good quality sites related to my market.

    I disagree.

The original questions was "is PR useless to increase SERP". Depending on how you read it, the answer may be "definitely". This is simply because if you have a PR5+ page, it is much, much easier to get quality link exchanges, which does affect your SERP. If you have PR0 page, almost nobody will want to exchange links with you, so you will not be able to increase your SERP.

    Hey,

Actually Page Rank and SERP both are different thing, I mean to say that if you have good page rank then it won't effect to your website SERP.

Link exchanges are fine... but people would be more interested in giving you a one way backlink for free, if your content is good! In short.. PR is still pretty useless thing for me!

My understanding is that it all fits together as a puzzle. High PR by itself will not do you any good, except attract others to exchange links with you. Given other things equal (backlinks, content, keyword density, etc), a higher PR page in google will win for a given keyword. Since it's almost impossible to have other things equal in real life, the PR by itself doesn't matter that much.

PR is one of the 200 factors that play role in SERP. Sites with less PR can come up in the ranking as compared to high PR sites because SERP depend on 200 factors.

Don't forget about the fact, that site couldn't have PR. PR is a page index.

If a page have PR=5 it means than it have highquality backlinks, while PR=0 means low quality or quantity of backlinks.
But anchors of PR=5 backlinks could be completely different from those you want to be at the top.

So competition with PR=5 page could be won easily.
In case of main keyword your PR=0 and competitor PR=5 page are the same there could be some troubles, I thinks.

OK but by trying to increase your SEPR, by getting backlinks and stuff, your PR will increase too. So PR is a part of SEPR, so PR does matter, doesnt it?

SERP depends not only on backlinks but also on anchors. Directly PR doesn't influence SERP.

PR is a factor, but its not the only factor. Everything has to work together. If you had a pr4 with junk content and someone else had a pr2 with good content on an older domain, they could easily out rank you on the search engines. There isn't really one factor that determines serp. Everything has to be in order and working together.... Thats my take anyway.
