Does anyone know when page rank is decided , is it decided on the day they choose to update your PR , or does it decided depending on stats over a few months e.g scenario Next PR update 1st April 2010 ... so i just started a new website last week and managed to get some decent backlinks to it , PR 5 + , and some authority links, its indexed in google and looking good. even though ive only got the links a few days/week before the PR update . Would i still get a PR increase ? Thanks Tom
Google does update PR everyday, or even every a couple of hours sometime. If you get your site verified via Google Webmaster Tools you will see what I meant. However, Google will only export each site PR to public in each period of time. Sometime 3 months, 6 months or whatever. Google used to export PR in every 3 months but it has been changed. No one could anticipate the time that Google will export PR to public anymore.
The scenario from the past was PR update from April 1 , showed the PR calculated several days before, a week perhaps. By gathering the links by March 20, when the counting was on 25 , you were able to get decent PR with no time, of course no one knew the exact dates. But that was the past.
According to Matt Cutts: ( now dont be silly asking who is he ) The Page Rank of a website updates every time Google bots find something to increase it or something to penalize it. But the Page Rank shown in your toolbar is a different thing. It is just an indication of your website's last Page Rank the last time Toolbar pagerank was updated rounded to the lower integer. The actual PR is in factions while Toolbar PR is in integers in scale of 10. The update of toolbar PR occurs nearly 4 times a year. Got the point? Regards Parul Sharma.
So are you guys saying its possible for me to get a high PR , due to the link ive received over the past week , even though the website is only a week or 2 old ? Thanks Tom
I dont think you will see a sudden rise in your google toolbar for the PR of your site. The reason being you need to have a particular number of backlinks spread all around the web and in social bookmarking sites. You need to have a proper SEO plan and the strategies have to be implemented accordingly. As you have started a new site, a little advice for you, do not concentrate on PR of your site, rather look out for traffic and sales. Start bookmarking your pages thoroughly and submit in directories.
Thanks for sharing the info. I am currently at Page Rank 0. I notice most of the websites can easily get to Page Rank 1 or 2. Hopefully Google will change my Pagerank soon.
