Is PPC really a good idea to advertise my blogs?

I'm currently writing on 4 differents blogs on different subjects such as money, technology, science and etc.

I've been doing adword campaigns for the last 3-4 days and have gotten about 5 clicks. I'm wondering if PPC would be a good idea or should I be thinking about something else?

You should be targeting News Stories. Like Write about the recent Oil "Story" and advertise it witht he keywords oil xxxxx, then you shouldn't be paying more than 6cents per click.

It's a good idea but don't expect to be profitable now.

Have you considered free advertising, such as submitting articles or link exchanges with similar blogs?

I decided I would enable the "Content network" options since I'm not looking for too targeted traffic. I've put a bid of 0.01$ for my max CPC, for which I should get 100 visitor each 1$.

Will a 0.01$ max CPC give me a big amount of impression or it's not high enough?

Why don't you publish your articles in www.digg.com. With DIGG, you can get more traffic for your website.

Do try www.slashdot.org for more traffic.

The thing with using PPC, I think, is that you need to have a site with high-paying keywords so that one or two clicks per 100/visitors will still be decent ROI. If one click brings in, say, $5-10, you can afford to pay $2-3 or even $4 for it. That's still a $1 profit.

At least that's how I always understood the PPC scheme to work with normal sites, and not affiliate leads.

I've heard if one of your articles makes it to the front page of Digg your site will be swamped with new traffic. This would work well for you because it's mainly technology articles.

It is unclear what are the objectives of your PPC campaign. You should ask yourself the question: what money do I make for each visitor. Some examples:

    - I expect visitors to click on expensive adsense ads and recoup my advertizing cost (a blog is not the best solution for that)

    - My visitors will subscribe to my ezine and I will sell them something after a dozen or so emails sent (I looked at one of the blogs and there was no clear invitation to subscribe to an ezine. I doubt RSS can relace an ezine to make money)

    - My visitors will buy affiliate products from my site (I found no such products)

    - My visitors will donate some money

    etc..

You need to tweak, tweak and tweak again the couple adsense/landing page and monitor if it is a good investment

Overall, the blog format is far from being ideal to have high conversion rates. On the contrary, it is super-optimized to get organic traffic

So I'd dropped completely the PPC and follow the other advices: write articles, get links, add content. Don't forget to tweak to improve your conversion rate. That's true also for organic traffic.

I see only one productive use of PPC in your case: to get traffic quickly and be able to adjust your blog for conversion rates.

Well, my actually goal is only to lead ~500 + visitor per day to my blog so I have a bigger traffic.

Later on I might try to convert this traffic into sales, but for the moment I'm more likely to look for new visitor and to "showcase" my blogs.

Another good way to get free, targeted traffic is to become a regular in forums related to your blog. If people like your forum posts, they will most likely want to check out your signature links.

In that case you might want to reword your ad so you'll just get those interested in your blog. I.e. "A blog dedicated to money", etc, so they know what they're getting when they click. This way you can get rid of the looky loos who doesn't know it's a blog, and will be clicking because your ad copy struck their interest, but once they see that it's a blog -- adios. And you lose your Per Click money on them.

They are IMHO targeted AND do include the fact that it's a blog. I'm just wondering if there were others method that would do a better job since I haven't attracted any click yet (with my content site ads)

You can find blogs that are similar to yours, who are more popular, and advertise directly. That should guarantee very targeted traffic who are already familiar and likes reading blogs.

Yup, you're right. One of my blog have a unique traffic more than 2000 visitor per day. Sometimes it might goes up to 5000 traffic, just because one of my articles got stuck in DIGG mainpage.

To get Slashdot to list your articles is trouble enough. It because their editorial team are more rigid. BTM, you can't loose anything if trying to let Slashdot list your articles because it can give you up to 100,000 unique traffic that you want.

The more you write, the more traffic you can get... Only if it's a technical articles.

definitely a bad idea, unless you're paying .000005 cents per click. Blogs grow themselves, as long as they are updated, so it just takes time... For example www.mattcutts.com/blog .... Well besides the fact that he's a super human SEO...
