Is posting a whole article bad?

I mean, I write articles for my website, but I also post them (with a link to the original) to some free article websites. Is Google going to punish me for that action of mine, as in, am I creating duplicate content and if so, is Mr. Google going to find out which is the original (for example, based on a date)?
And is this a good way to promote my site anyway? :)
    Thanks!

    Best Regards,
    Phil

Never post an article of your own website to free article sites - you are devaluing/duplicating your own content :)
if you promote it properly, you can get some benefits out of article marketing :)

Thanks, onedollar, actually until yesterday that was exactly what I was doing, but I'll never know what made me think that if I post my own stuff, it will bring some more traffic.

Stupid me, thanks once again :)
