I'm thinking of starting a political blog because it seems like politics is the most popular topic for blogs and they seem to get lots of hits and everything. One problem is I can't think of how I'd be able to sell advertising on a political blog. There are no consumer goods or services that go along with politics like gambling does with sports, for example.
It won't be a great niche for affiliate marketing. However if you're going to use PPC and similar, it's good because of the big potential traffic.
I had a political blog for a while. If you're interested in politics then it's fun to write for. The opportunities to make money are quite limited though. Remember, that after the US election the interest in politics will die down for a while too.
I think that there is one important thing people need to consider when choosing their fields of writing - if they are able and have the knowledge to write about something specific. I am not sure whether everyone can sit and write about politics just because there is a big temporary interest. If the content you offer to the public is not quality, even with very good SEO, you cannot succeed Good Luck! A.
BUT do you have interest in politics? Will you enjoy writing politics related articles? If not then I dont see any point in starting a politics realted blog BUT if you enjoy it then go for it. There may not be "that many" ways to monetize it but if you make it quality then you will be able to monetize effectively.
After taking the other input on board politics is a great niche. I know I cant not read them. That being said it isnt a niche it is a topic or category possibly. US election politics is a niche, democratic policies of nevada is a niche. But as someone says blogs are only successful if the quality of post is good. So its only a good idea if you can create great content and enjoy doing so.
IMO the best niche for a blog is a niche you want to write about. If you are not obsessed with politics, you will get bored so no advertising will suite you cause your blog gonna be dead.
Politics is a nice niche because it's always relevant to our country. Since the election will go on for a solid period of time from now, if you start now you can build up a big readership and then when it dies down you'll still have some traffic. I believe The Daily Kos, a politics blog, is the 5th or 6th most popular blog in the world.
Popularity would be seasonal around elections, but then on the other hand the potential visitor base is pretty huge during that time. THough if you don't like politics, what do you have to contribute and interest other people to read your articles.
I think Politics is too wide a spectrum to be singled out as a good niche.Perhaps a sub-niche (such as the Iraq War, Economics even those may be too big a niche in the "blog age") A few points to consider: - What will your particular blog offer over say online newspapers and other more highly regarded Politic Blogs? - How deeply passionate are you about Politics , intially you may be full of enthusiasm but this flame is easily .. doused. - What are you're long term aims for the blog? After answering these questions you should have a clearer idea of where to head. Good luck.
A politics blog is all about your views on the happenings and about building your authority. If you don't think you can comment on 3 of the major headlines on politics in your country with at least 200-300 words, you shouldn't start a blog on it at the first place. About monetization, since this is a niche mostly about personal tones, opinions and building your status as an authority commentator on politics, you should think of writing your own products for sale. Such products can be your prediction of the politics environment in your country in 5 years or 10 years time or an exclusive interview with a politician. Well, if you are just starting it with the purpose of making money right from the start, this is not a niche for you as I have said earlier, politics blogging is all about building your authority so that people will listen and read what you have to offer.
If you like politics and think you have enough to say about it then start a blog. It would be a good time with the elections coming up later this year. It will give you time to build your page rank and credibility. There are CPA ads that you can place on your blog that you can make affiliate commissions from.
