I just had a very good idea. Everyone here agrees that pligg is an excellent script and that the only draw back is that there are no free templates “WEB 2.0†to give it a more professional look. RIGHT So why don’t we all pitch in and pay someone here on DP to design a template for pligg. After the job is done we can offer it to pligg.com as a gratification for their excellent work. If everyone pitches in with $5 it will be more than enough. If you're interested please PM me or leave a comment here.
So, I'm the owner of aquariu.ms. A couple of points about pligg: In the recent versions, it's quite easy to set up. I spent about 15 minutes setting up aquariu.ms. On the other hand, there are almost no templates available. I'm in no way a graphics person, so my site is doomed to be ugly till I can con someone into helping me or some templates are created. I have also noticed that there are a lot of inter-dependancies between the code and the theme that make modifications pretty painful, at least the last time I tried. Pligg has a relatively small community around it compared to phpbb, smf, joomla, mambo, etc, so it's not suprising that things aren't moving real fast for it. Jerry
I did install it myself but getting tonnes of smarty and crap errors in the script. so searching for someone to search and install a fresh copy for me
It was hell for me when i tried installing it, there were loads of missing files. I didnt bother with it created my own kind of Digg it Link for my CMS.
That’s funny I didn’t have any problems installing the script. I think you might of used an older version of pligg.
HI Was using The latest 7. Something ( Beta 8 released today) and found the same errors. then i changed the templates from config file itself and eveything went fine. I have not yet made my site live just bvecause i discovered pligg only recently. Will try to install the latest version ( Version 8 released today) and share my experirence soon. Will Update it soon with the site url . Till then TC
Looks good as Beta 8 is released with a different template engine (no more smarty) And talking about a web 2.0 template there's already a member there that is working on it, you can see it here: http://www.pligg.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1597 The thing is he hasn't coded it just yet Btw if anyone is looking to install Pligg, i recomend Sridhar Katakam, he can install it for a fee, in fact he did the installation for me.
I got one up and running on an older version of pligg..and I agree, not to much you can customize so far yet with the templates. http://www.imbuzzworthy.com/
Hey everyone, I'd like to start off by thanking everyone for their interest in Pligg. My name is Kyle and some of you may recognize me as a Pligg developer. I noticed that some of you had an idea of pitching in some money for a Pligg template. I just wanted to let you know that Pligg greatly appreciates anything that the community develops. It is true that we are only a small bunch of devs (3-5 people) and that's another reason I wanted to make this post. We would like any help we can get. Pligg is an amazing product right now and I can't even imagine what it would be like it we had only a few more dedicated developers. If you have any questions or comments feel free to drop by the Pligg IRC. You can always find us in there. irc://irc.freenode.net/pligg I agree with most of you that Pligg would really shine if we could get a really nice web 2.0 template going. Recently, paul411 in the forums released a template called paul01 (01 because he plans on releasing more). You can see it in action at demo.pligg.com AshDigg, who founded Pligg with Yankidank, has been working hard lately and developed a 5 star rating system. If you don't like the regular vote method like at digg.com you can use a 5 star rating system on your Pligg site. This will be released in the next version on Pligg. The reason I brought this up is to show that Pligg is still going strong and we're working hard on making it as powerful and user-friendly as possible.
I am a Pligg user as well: http://www.clesto.com I am running a modified theme and an older version of Pligg. When trying to upgrade to 8.02 i get tons of errors and my template does not work. I have carefully build my website and am getting quite populair now so i do not want to run into any problems. But i do want to use the new version because of some features i really need. Anyone that can help me upgrade and keep my theme? Kbeever maybe?
