Is "Phrase Match" the right choice for me?

    Hello,

i am looking for the following option:

I want to display my ad only when the keyword is searched for in combination with other keywords.

So for example, i dont want to be displayed when "car" is searched for. But i want to displayed everytime when somebody is searching for "car xyz".

Problem with "Phrase Match" is that its still displaying my ad when somebody just types "car" into the search.

    How to achieve that?

While writing this i thought maybe with a negative keyword [cars] ??

    Greets

Wrong. There's no way if someone searches for "car" that your ad would trigger on "ford car". It's not suppose to happen, that's not how phrase matching works.

If you think it does, yes, use [car] as a negative.

You can use broad modifier match that include (+) in every keyword which you want to show in the search query whereas you can block cars as negative keywords

you may choose the broad modifier in auto mode and let google help manage it for you. This is what I did. So many features and settings that you really need to be careful or you will be wasting your money on ads. I find the best is to use as many automatic settings as you can. Just my two cents.

Avoid automatic settings. You have no control and can't test properly.

Do use the broad modifier match. Avoid the "regular" broad match.

OK, thx! I guess i will test both. One campaign with a phrase keyword with an excluded exact match and one campaign with the broad match setting.

Negative keywords are your friend. Type your main keyword into their tool, then when you see keywords that you absolutely do not want your ad to show for, add them to your negative keyword list.

Go with an Option of Exact Match.

Say if one is searching for [Car XYZ] then One will see Your ad. here you even need not to exclude the term Car.

I thing you want to choose only exact match keywords, Exact match is help to provide right and genuine Impressions and clicks. One more thing to do choose your negative keywords also.

I'm a fan of using PHRASE match then using a NEGATIVE keyword list preventing your ad from being shown to irrelevant search terms.

EXACT match is great too. But it really depends on your niche.

There are so many ways to optimize your adwords account.

broad modifier is the thing for you . Use keywords like "cars +xyx" and set type as "broad" . It will ensure that your ad is displayed when the search query has "cars and xyz " so it wont be anything with cars . It will have less negatives than you have in broad
