I think so. Very powerful, good user support, and yet virtually free.
    I cannot expect more..

phpLD is the best bar none. Yes, I am biased and a fanatic.

Also, I try my best to help as many people as possible over there. Last month alone I answered 524 PM's (i cleared my inbox a few days ago hehe)

I also have some pretty nice MODs I've completed and I do templating as well. They'll definately diversify you from the million other directories out there using the same bare templates and look. You can have a peek at the MODs over here Directory Dump - Index of Resource Listings (no 3rd party software in my MODs. It's all phpLD based). If you want to see what the featured listings look like, head to the Search Engine Directory subcat. If you want to see the submission page, just register to view. It's definately diversified from any other directory, and I am working on something *new* in terms of submissions) ;)

    edit:
    Don't bet on it!

It sure seems to be and I have been doing a lot of looking lately.

I actually have a couple of test sites up using a couple of scripts and I am pretty impressed so far.

    Monopoly never is good :p
I was kidding, i'm making a script, but will be hard to make something like phpLD ... they probably have lots of programmers working on it, and too much money. I have only 2 hands and nothing in the pocket. :(

phpLD has a lot of competition. If you back up 1 year ago, phpLD was not known by very many people, and it seemed we would never rise to be better than the others, but somehow we have managed to do well, and I would credit that to our competition. Scripts like wsnlinks, phpmydirectory, klinks and esyndicat have continued to get better, and thanks to competition, it makes us all strive to do better.

Actually, I beg to differ. I think your loyal foum members and all the people that have helped you by promoting and developing mods are 90% the reason.

You may definitely differ. I think I may have to differ with my first statement. :)

I tested a lot of directory scripts, and phpLD was easily the best. It's absolutely worth a link if you're considering a directory project. What's nice is that it's now becoming popular enough that more templates are available for it. They were sparse at first, but there are a lot more lately.

It creates a directory of links organized by categories and subcategories.
There are many features to the script.

PHPLD is definitely the way to go. I use it on several directories including this one that originally ran the old biz directory script (before I knew about PHPLD). Dave helped me convert the site over to PHPLD and I am very glad I did. :D

Not sure if there is a script that doesnt use a MySQL database out there. But any decent hosting package should come with MySQL. Why not sign up for a better host?
