Currently, i am running Version phpBB 2.0.22 and Version 3 is now available.
Are there any bugs in the new version , and is it worth upgrading?

    Thanks for your answers. :D

    this is my personal opinion:

phpbb is crap, it sux, its a pos.

now that thats out of the way, if you can afford vb, by all means get it.
otherwise i would say convert your forum to SMF.

    you'll thank me later. ;)

I checked their demo for version 3, and it seems like they added alot of new stuff , one thing I dont like about the new version is that they changed the thread url's eg
currently my thread url's are like this
    to
They added the forum link in the thread, which will mess up all my current threads

I was actually thinking that too, but since my forum is not that popular, i will stay with phpbb for a while, and SMF is pretty famous too, but I dont like it's look and functions.

I will see what can I do , anyone have any more suggestions? :p

phpBB2 is not going to be supported anymore by the official forums which means less mods, no help and you're stuck with an insecure solution. Granted phpBB 2 is a popular forum script, there are plenty of people that have modded so much that it might be hard to switch.

I would say unless you're ready to really secure your site and use Site Firewall or something (pay $120) or hire a PHP developer to secure it for you when more security hole are found, I would really suggest upgrading.

phpBB3 is faster, secure, constantly updated and there are always new mods. Any old mods that you have are most likely not going to be developed or updated and like I said the holes just keep getting bigger and bigger.

I used to be a huge phpBB supporter but i agree with you these days....Always update (Every day if possible) because leave it and you WILL get hacked.

Beg borrow or steal the money for vB...ever since I switched I've never had an issue.

The phpbb development team dropped support for version 2 in either 2007 or early 2008. So chances are your site has some security issues that are just waiting to be exploited.

Should you switch to phpbb3? Na, I dont think so.

Either switch to vbulletin, invision power board, smf or mybb. And that is in the order that I recommend them.

I recently switched from PHPbb3 to SMF just because it is time consuming process to upgrade the version of PHPbb if you are using many mods in your forum. Also, using outdated version can create security problem. I suggest to upgrade your version or switch to another board.

I am planning on downloading the database through Admin-Cp and doing a fresh installation of Version 3, and importing the database, hopefully that will work out. :)

doesn't the database need upgrading for the newest phpbb version?
if not, downloading the db is a waste of time, just get the new files up and edit the config to reflect the database name etc.

It will not work. You will need to follow upgrade steps from to upgrade version from 2 to version 3.

be sure to backup your database, so when you fully realize the true crappiness of phpbb, you'll have something to convert. :D

if anyone has converted from phpbb to smf share their experiences, and steps they took for converting , that would be wonderful
