Hello everyone.. I'm back with another question Actually I am going to make a FORUM BASED WEBSITE.. As I am doing research work over this stuff at the moment, I came across a thing called PHPBB... I've read that phpBB is used for making forums and all.. Is it necessary to have a knowledge about phpbb to create a forum related website.... As I'm working very hard on this new venture of mine so I'm ready to learn it if it will help me to create a good thing.... While googling i came across this website which provides tutorial on phpbb... Is this tutorial good??? If anyone of you have any idea about this thing then please do let me know... And I'll also like to ask about difference between PhpBB 2 and PhpBB 3... does it really matter if i use any of these??
There are others open source forum scripts out in the world, so phpbb is not the only one. You might want to take a look at two paid ones: vBulletin and IPB Free ones will be: SMF, MyBB, PunBB and a lot more.
mate you have many alternatives like SMF which is good to start with phpbb is little funny to handle so start with smf or punbb
which of the opensource bulletin board system is more useful of all... If i have to learn then I prefer learning the best of all... can anyone tell me where i get the video tutorials on this stuff... i searched youtube but there are 1-2 video tutorials on phpbb
What do you want to learn exactly? How to install a forum, how a forum works, how to skin/code a forum...? And I recommend SMF.
You see sometime being a newbie can make you all confused.. Thats what happening to me I guess... Because i seriously have no idea of why do we need these opensource bulletin thing... can't we create a forum website using XHTML, Javascript and PHP???? please guide me properly if you can.????
Yes, you can, but I'm not sure if you want to code everything your self? A open source script is a script which is ready to use. So you will need a webhost, once you have once, simply upload all files of the script to the webhost and install it, there are probably documentations on how installing it.
phpBB doesn't require much knowledge of coding or php. It has an easy user interface. A more simple forum that ties in well with wordpress is bbpress. bbpress is easier to manage than phpbb if you want an alternative platform.
if i use phpbb then wont the look of my website be similar to other websites which uses phpbb... i mean i have seen plenty of websites which are based on phpbb having same layout/theme.. similarly there are plenty of website which are almost identical to DP as they also use vBuletin ... i have a theme in my mind and want to use it....
