Is PAN number mandatory when depositing cheque (above Rs.50k) in India?

I want to deposit a cheque from Google Adsense which is above Rs.50,000. I know that depositing Cash above Rs.50,000 requires the PAN number to be quoted in the deposit form. I would like to know whether anyone has deposited cheque (above Rs.50,000) without quoting the PAN number and got cleared by the bank? BTW, my bank is ICICI.

 

No. You need PAN Number to deposit CASH ABOVE 50,000Rs, Not Cheque.

I think this is valid for all cheques, you can easily confirm this by calling up your local bank.

There is no need to write PAN number to deposit checks. From April-2010, all the account holders should write their PAN in their deposit slip. Now RBI made it mandatory.

Needed or not Needed, U must get a Pan Number. Its easy to get and will cost only 100 bucks if u catch some agent to do that for u. It saves u from lot of tines.
50000 From adsense means u will have to pay tax in neat future. So better have PAN Card to avoid 10000 Rs fine
