    It totally depends on what you're counting in on-page SEO! Are you talking about KW density, anchor text for linking, the inter-linking strategy or something else?

    Probably you messed up with the title change. For example, if you included a typo, the new Google Panda algorithm will penalize you for that.

    In any case, on-page SEO is also important. I have some pages ranking quite high without any kind of off-page SEO, just because I was careful with the on-page. But of course you should not neglect the off-page SEO.

    On-page SEO is a great SEO factor. But changing the title can reduce your ranking temporarily. You will soon get the old or higher ranking.

    I think you should stop panicking. SEO takes time and all changes must be indexed by google.
    As you said you were playing with title so check your title if contains your keywords. If your most important keywords are there you should be ok.
    Next time save copy of your website....and remember it takes time for google to crawl your website and to index and populate all the changes.
