Is one link in a forum enough??

    Hello all.

    Question I have is...
I recently posted some comments on a relative forums to my site. I have made one comment on each forum with a link to my site.

So question is one link enough for each Forum? Or I should respond more and more?

    Thanks
    Zack

I think 1 link is enough. The reason I say this is that there is extra weight for every additional domain that links to. If you read the SEOMoz survey results you will see that most top SEO's agree with this. So, while getting more links from a domain that has already linked to you will certainly not hurt, it is nowhere near as helpful as getting links from NEW domains that have never linked to you (especially HIGH PR and closely related).

The problem with forums is that the links will fall away from the home page in time, making them less useful. It's a good idea to revisit the forum every couple months. However, I think being really active on 10 forums is preferable to posting once on, maybe, 100. It's pretty easy to build up a huge post count (and therefore backlinks) if the forum is somewhat active.

One link is enough. But definitely keep going back and participate once every month or so... By doing this, you can get some traffic to your site as well.

    One link enough?

Does that translate to one post?

If you are joining forums to make one lousy post, then move on
and do it to 1,000 others, that is very bad advice.

That will eventually ruin forum posting.

When you join, post, then run, you are doing nothing more
    than spamming the forums.

Join a forum, make some friends, learn some things.

No, i think forums are not only the place to get backlinks but also best for generating traffic. It certainly depends on the kind of strategy you have developed for promotion of your website.

Yes its enough, rather go and add on many forums instead of just 1.
But having said that make sure you dont overdo things in a short space of time and also go back to the forums sometimes.

Think about it - what looks more natural to Google? I would suggest few links are more powerful than many, which will look unnatural and dilute link performance.

Forum links pass little value anyway from my experience.

One link is enough. And it is best to maintain a few forum sites and regularly visit and update them.

    Thank you so much people.

Wow I am overwhelmed thank you. Just to answer couple of people here. I am only posting on forums that are closely related to my site. And actually will help people get more info about the topics.

So a follow up question if you don't mind. I am not a newbie and sort of understand which sites are better to link then Forums...

Honestly I believe you should contribute multiple posts and actually become a legitimate forum contributor. You are more likely to drive more traffic to your site if you are trusted vs someone who has only posted once.

1 link is completely fine. the value will be diminished after one.
