.edu backlinks have the same value as .com , .net domain. Specially when it is no-follow its almost like any other no-follow link.

Who cares if it's edu or net? Nofollow is there to be for traffic, but in this case the links have to be from a related site. In that case, it could be com, edu, net, whatever.

Yes, in an ideal world people will use both when linking to your site.

When you build links there should look natural and natural inbound links will be followed and non follow.

    Thanks Brian

Ideally people say .edu and .gov links are better backlinks because generally they are have more prominent authorities from other edu and .gov site that makes their site's PR high.

I agree with you regarding the authority of .edu and .gov sites. It's interesting how people are working a lot to find edu pages just to get some nofollow backlinks.

IMHO, what matters is the site's content and Google PR and not the .edu address. I think that "no follow" links are good for traffic but not for ranking.

If it is no-follow than spiders of search engines will not crawl and have no or limited value.

I'm of the opinion that .edu have the same value as that of .com backlinks. If the backlinks are from high authority sites, they are of the prime value.

Alot of people say that google gives more authority to .edu and .gov sites. I believe it's true... I don't know if they're worth it with the no-follow tag though :/

Having a no-follow link on .edu site may have effect (but not much)

If possible, try to get do follow .edu link, its the best :D
