Is New Media Marketing Causing a Brand Identity Crisis?

I just posted about a new media marketing issue at FadMarketing.com - with the specific example of Myspace News being designed to compete with Digg. Basically, I talk a little bit about this new media company trend of trying to dabble in everything rather than trying to "perfect" one thing.

Comment on the blog if you have something to say about that particular example, or share some of your thoughts here. Do you think that this need to "be everything to everyone" is going to eventually cause a new media bubble to burst? Is it causing a branding crisis for some of these companies? Are they losing their identity by expanding too much w/o fully perfecting their original business model, or do you really think at least one company will rise to the top of the new media world, and be able to "do it all"?
