Yeah! if we compare .net with .com then! .com is better for SEO! but if you have .net which is efficiently indexed among search engines then it wont create any difference!
There is no real difference. The only effect may have is the websites appeal to visitors. .com sometimes register better in peoples minds then .info.
All extensions of domains are the same for search engines, you will find both .com and .net rank for different keywords, however .com is more popular domain and more professional companies use .com.. so if you take a professional approach to your website you might end up with .com
.net stand for "Internet" & "network" and nothing to do with "company" and "commerce" like the .com for the public eyes. So if your building a website for a big company or you are the company and want to do business, get ready to spend some 5 figure for that .com The .net will always make you look inferior. If you always want to be 2nd at everything. I personally don't like .net as an alternative to .com

I really don't understand why people choose .net as the second choice. If the .com is taken i'll just take the .TV or my own country code instead.

.US is much better because it makes you look more legit then a .NET It's clear that your from the USA. When people think of .NET, they think "HAHA! the .COM is taken HAHA!"
