Is MySpace Cheating Adsense?

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by adsens3, Jul 27, 2007.

Today I decided to check out MySpace to see their different ad placements, etc. Then, something very disturbing caught my eye. I noticed that in EVERY MySpace group page, adsense was serving MESOTHELIOMA ads. Check out the screenshot below, which is that of the Family Guy group on Myspace. I don't see any connection between Mesothelioma and Family Guy.

Ads on MySpace get targeted based on your profile (and possibly other information), not the content of the page you are viewing.

Also, there are lots of private areas of MySpace with AdSense ads on them - so if Google used the page content for the theme they would all be about log in pages :).

Yes, I'm 100% sure. The ads by google is probably not there because Myspace is a premium adsense publisher.

You don't see the Google link because Myspace is a premium publisher, but this is very interesting :)

Very interesting I have also seen this myself. Myspace uses its keywords and so on to get higher paying keywords on almost every page. They also do have google ads on login pages. This is the case of if your site makes google alot of money they will leave you alone?

Is that really a surprise? I'd be surprised if that wasn't the case to be honest.

Attorney's and Mesothelioma, hmm where have I seen these two words before? :D Good for them, but they are not breaking the "TOS".

This is BS. Why do we have to create content around these keywords when MySpace can just sit back knowing that Google is serving them high-paying ads without any effort?

    Its underhand, but hardly corruption.

The corrupt people are more likely the ones running the adverts in the first place - making money from other people's illness.

Advertiser could have targeted his ads on myspace.com which could explain ads not directly matching with content.

Myspace had a pretty sweet deal with Adsense, they have no reason to cheat.

I think that there might have been a bulletin related to that topic. I have the song "Mary Jane's Last Dance", and I keep getting ads about Tom Petty.

On another note i though it was against adsense rules if you put sponsored links above the ads to encourage people to click on them which can be seen in the myspace screenshot

Im probablys wrong, just i though i heard that it was against rules a while ago
