I just switched from a free host to Mydosty's 99 cent hosting program. I plan on switching to HostGator when I get some more money, but for now this is fine I guess. As soon as I switched, I noticed that my site is a lot slower to load, and all I'm actually running is the basic Wordpress theme. Is this because of my host?
More then likely your host is what is slowing the site down. The interenet speeds are pretty quick now a days so. Might want to check out the BST section and look for some hosting there.
Its probably the host if everything was fine previously. Complain to them - and see if they can do anything to speed it up.
My suggestion would be to check out your site on different connections and if the site loads slow for other people including your site that means switching the host would be a good thing and as far as HostGator goes there a bit slow so try checking out some hosting solutions that are being offered here on DP.
If you posted your url we could actually test it by doing some traceroutes etc. But without a url we can only guess.
You should change host. Go for an established host, not all the small ones offered here at DP. I dont believe that hostgator is slow, I have two accounts and they work well. if you want another host go for www.dimensionservers.com
Yes, I am. By the way, thank you for the kind words, login. Douglas Haber Customer Account Admin dhaber [at] NOSPAM dimensionservers.com
I have always been treated very nice at dimensionservers. The owner Jonathan is a very decent hard working guy. (he is the owner right?). If something happens there you can be sure that they will fix it. how do I know ? Because when I started my hosting there last year I had some heavy issues (that was caused by my scripts), but Jonathan did his best to make it possible for me to run that scripts. I have used about 15-20 hosts all together and never had so good support as with dimensionservers, that includes godaddy, hostgator and other small and big hosts. I told Jonathan that I was sorry, using so much of his time, but he just told me that spending time with a customer is never wasted time. That says something about them I think.
Maybe,if you site is okay and you net is okay, that is the problem of your host, try to open your site with another PC.
Jonathan is indeed the owner. Trust me, any time he spends with a client is important to him, it's the same as spending time with his family to him.
Most of the time it's normally the webmasters scripts at fault and database optimization. But as you have just changed it straight over and have not changed any of your scripts then it could be or you have not done something quite right with the database or script implementation or something.
Thank you again for the kind words. Doug has been a wonderful help with DS, and I am happy I have him as an employee.
