I totally understand your frustration, and probably for once, I won't blame the host on this one... although I don't think they really tried hard enough to help you.

OK, let me try to break things down for you.

First of all with a vps, you have a hard cap of resources, such as 256Ram.
When you approach and/or hit that limit, that's when a site becomes sluggish and may possibly crash.

Throw in the fact that you have cpanel, which ofcourse uses alot of resources.
I forget exactly, but let's say for example, that cpanel uses 128mb ram, well right there that eats into half of your available ram.
    Whereas on a dedicated-shared server with 4G Ram, it's hardly a blip.

And that's the other benefit too, with a dedicated server, there is a higher ceiling of ram for your script.

I mentioned about 1000 concurrent users, we also have massive forum databases that are 3, 4, 5G in size. But, believe me, they don't pay $6.95/month, they would get kicked off any over-seller's server.

We give them a semi-dedicated server plan, where they are guaranteed xG of space or something like 25% of the server.
We guarantee that space, so if let's say we normally average 800 accounts per server, well these clients would take the space of 200 clients, and therefore much less chance of over-loading the server.

    I think I talked too much :)

Sounds like he is just making excuses to get you to upgrade.

    Try the vBulletin support boards.

Yes, but not just that. you would probably be wise to stay away from vps's

Yes, but that's not what he asked for. I, too, could sell him hosting (and I guarantee I will beat any competitors price) but he didn't ask and i'ts not

I would let them know why you're moving, perhaps request a refund and then cancel your account and move to a different host.

what are the chances of a refund?
i think its kinda slim, the way things look.
They refuse to take responsibility for it

If they have any 30 day money back then get a refund.
If not complain till you get one but either way move to a different host.

I would say it's highly unlikely, unless they either have a 30-day refund policy or you get loads and loads of media attention (which is even more unlikely).

Stay clear of this guy. I payed for one of his hosting packages he was selling from a previous banned account and he did a runner. No hosting, no refund.

This is hosting thread he made under his old banned account:

If you pay 89$/month for that then you can get a p4 with 1GB RAM better than the VPS with more resources and get it optimized by your host because forum scripts are resource hog

Maybe they are not limiting CPU and sharing it with all VPSes on the node

Do you have this forum on the plan at servage ?

Can you tell us your forum URL ?
