Is my tech blog cold to commenters?

    Hi !

Back in april I started a technology blog. Didn't have that fast success, rather than a slow and solid one, ending up on the first 5 and 6 for some major keywords. So, these day I am summing up arround 150-200 uniques each day, yet a maximum of 2 comments per week.

    Whats going one ?
this is the blog I am talking about Modern Technology

Also, I thought of doing a marketing stratey to gain more visitors. Basicly, I am thinking on starting a competition for who gets the most reffereals to tech news stories will get some gadget like an mp3 player or something. but not sure how will the competitors will manage spamming the links all over arround.

Any thoughts on my two concerns ?

    Regards.

If only there was a way to add a "Leave a Comment" link next to the post title that might help

People only leave comments if the they disagree with what you wrote in your article. In some cases they will leave a comment if they agree but would like to add something to it. I personally only leave comments if I disagree with your point of view... Get the point?

Your blog just talks about technology. For example, blu-ray post, basically gives advantages and disatvantages of blu-rays. If you had said something like "I hate the guy who invented blu-ray technology because it cant compete against dvds blah blah blah" you would have caught a lot of peoples attention and they would have left comments.

I think, when it comes to blogs, that articles have to bee too opinionated to get comments.

I dont know how much control you have over the site but maybe you can create a small text box next to the "leave a comment" link

I have a buddy that has a tech crunch blog that gets a little over 300 uniques... same comment situation as well, I would think that people would comment simply to get a linkback as he is giving out free links for those who comment. But alas they are few and far inbetween

If you would make links in comment "follow" instead of "no follow" I am sure you would get much more comments.

You should try using the wp-plugin "CommentLuv" for giving away free back links on comments. It's a great way to encourage comments from users but the only problem is the spam it brings with it. I agree with Big-time, you need to give a point of view or ask a question to encourage commenting. Posting good unique content will help you in the search engines but if your not engaging the user or creating "controversy" you won't get many comments.Try creating post that are filled with great content but include your own POV on it. Also you have to respond to comments and push for conversations. The post may not be as interesting as the conservation about it in the comments section. People will comment more if they know they are being heard by the author.

    yeah no-follow comments get nothing.

Additionally, anonymous users should be able to comment with their own URL.

Also, if you have a blog post... and you link to some other blog (not like a major website [alexa ranking should be higher than 50,000] )... Most likely the site owners will come back and comment on your blog (because they see in statistics they got a backlink from you).
