Friends, I just noticed something weird when i logged in to my paypal. I wanted to check a payment from a customer, i logged in and checked.. thought everything is OK.. but then when i wanna logout... something strange happend .. my mouse pointer is going crazy and it didnt allow me to click on logout link.. pointer was going in a different direction each time i try to reach logout link... i said to mself .. WTF?? and then my browser was suddenly closed .. i'm really scared and thought it was an attack n i turned my modem off immediately and then i restarted my PC .. run nCleaner and Cleanup softwares.. logged into paypal again and changed my password. What was that?? an Attack/ Hack ?? Ever happened to anyone? .. i am really scared now
Might be a Trojan or spyware. You could try installing an anti spyware program like spybot and use a free antivirus program like avira.
First , you better use a clean computer to change your password again! Then do what cool_78 said AND also run the sophos anti-rootkit...
Also, one more important tip. Never, never open an email claiming it is from paypal and log into the link they provide and sign onto paypal from there. A friend of mine did, and that was the end of hi paypal balance in less than 24 hours! Please be careful with this hope everything is all right with your PP account now...
Installing Avast Antivirus software now. Will paypal allow someone to login to my account from a different country within short period of time?? I am hoping everything will be OK but not sure
Logically, it should, but if it suspects something, it will temporarily put a hold onto your account. Will you be logging in from the same device? As I heard, their security systems run on device protection - so the same device (laptop) from different countries works fine. Different devices from different countries raise a red flag. Please contact their customer support beforehand and mention your travel or migration plans - that would surely help
I am back .. just formatted my PC. Are you sure it was my browser problem?? I didnt have TeamViewer installed on my PC. If it was an issue with my browser how come that didnt happen ever before ? I strongly suspect its got something to do with Trozan or spyware I have another question, are we allowed to change our password frequently? I did change my password after the issue, now i wanna change it again Anyway, thank you
You can change password a couple of times a week or so, why would you want to do it more frequently than that?
1st try to use FF when you are logging into paypal or any other important website, for some reason people say it is more secure, always use a new FF window to open websites, clean all your cookies before you do that, frequently scan your computer for spyware, malware ,and viruses.
It definitely was a problem related to your pc, With a trojan your details would have been siphoned off without you even noticing. PayPal establishes a secure encrypted connection with your pc. Either your browser got crashed or something went wrong internally. Btw is not good having a heavy java script loaded site open in a neighboring browser tab.
May be you are right ... i had one or two websites opened in other tabs n they use JS heavily. You know the way it happened ..as if some one was operating my PC from a remote place .. it almost gave me a heart attack Anyway.. thanks for the info. mate .. very relaxed now
